Mary Alice Buchanan Ford Barnes, age 92, of Martha Franks Baptist Retirement Community, died on January 19, 2014.
She was born January 25, 1921, the daughter of the late Luther Fred and Sarah Elizabeth Word Buchanan and the widow of Charles Emory Barnes. She was pre-deceased by her first husband, Ralph Evan Ford, a sister, and two brothers. Mrs. Barnes was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Mrs. Barnes and her husband owned The Professional Drug Store, and later, The Barnes Gift Shop. She was a free-lance decorator and a member of Laurens First Baptist Church. She served for several years on the Laurens County Association for Retarded Citizens Board.
Surviving are: a daughter, Jane Ford Barnes Cain and husband William H., Jr. (Billy) of Laurens; three grandchildren, William H. Cain, III (Bill) and wife, Delores of Laurens, Charles Robert Cain (Bob) and wife Louise of Winston-Salem, NC, and Jane Elizabeth Cain (Beth) of Clinton; two great-grandchildren, Christopher Ryan Cain and Katherine Louise Cain; two step great-grandchildren, and three step great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Barnes’ family is grateful to the staff of MFBRC, Unit II and to care-givers, Pat Pulley and Lisa Holmes, for their dedicated and loving care.
Funeral Services will be held at Martha Franks Rasor Chapel on Wednesday, January 22, 2014, at 10:00 a.m., conducted by Dr. Russell Dean and Rev. Rickey Letson with music provided by Rev. Adair Rogers.
The family will receive friends at Martha Franks Rasor Chapel immediately following the service.
A private burial will be held on Wednesday, January 22, 2014, at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
