Human remains were found outside Clinton yesterday afternoon on property owned by the City of Clinton. A man with a timber company was surveying the area around the old Clinton sewer pond north of town to prepare for harvesting trees when he reportedly stumbled over a bone. Clinton Public Safety Department Director Robin Morse estimated the discovery occurred around 2:30 in the afternoon. Clinton Public Safety has a shooting range and fire training facility on nearby property. The site is off Highway 308 between the city limits and Interstate 385.
The Coroner, the Sheriff’s Office and SLED were called to the scene. SLED assisted local law enforcement with processing the scene.
Laurens County Coroner Nick Nichols said that most of the skeletal remains of a person were located, including the skull. He was optimistic that the person’s identify could be determined through dental records. He said that a pathologist would conduct an examination of skeletal remains at 10:00 o’clock this morning.
