Sports Report for Monday, 4-21-2014

Local Sports Results 


  • SB: Chapman 11 – Clinton 7… The Lady Red Devils traveled to Spartanburg last Friday to take on the Broome Lady Centurions in softball action… The varsity team played first for a change and because of that was able to get their game in but not the JV game… In varsity action, Broome took an 11-7 win but as Coach Templeton put it, her team gave “phenomenal effort using a new lineup.”… Molly Scarborough led the Red Devils at the plate going 2 for 2 with 2 walks and 1 RBI….  The team had 7 RBI’s by 7 different people…. The Red Devils also played errorless ball on defense…  Jessica Wood pitched 7 innings giving up 12 hits, 2 walks, and 4 strikeouts…  The next game is at Broome tonight with a JV/Varsity doubleheader….  For those of you who cannot make it to the game, Sports Radio 1410 will broadcast the varsity game with the first pitch scheduled for 7:00 pm… Remember you can also catch the action live on the internet at
  • BB: Chapman 13 – Clinton 9… The Red Devil baseball team also started their game at home with Chapman early on Friday and managed to get 6 innings in before the weather caused the game to be ended after 6 innings… Unfortunately, the Red Devils were trailing at that point and lost by a score of 13-9… Chapman led 7-0 before Clinton struck for 3 runs in the bottom of the 4th inning o make it 7-3…. Chapman then put 6 runs on the board in the top of the 5th to take a 13-3 lead… Clinton managed 4 more runs in the 5th and 2 in the 6th before the weather became so bad they had to stop the game and called it complete by rule… Blake Riddle led the Red Devils going 3 for 5 with triple and 4 RBIs…. O’Kevius Conway and Payton Spangler each had 2 hits for Clinton… Clinton is scheduled to be at home tomorrow as they host the Woodruff Wolverines in a 6:00 pm contest…  Click on the following for more statistics on the game: 14-4-18_BB_CHS-Chapman_Stats
  • Soccer: Chapman 2 – Clinton 1… The Clinton soccer team was also in action up at Chapman last Friday and Chapman scored twice in the first half of play and them made it stand up as Chapman took a 2-0 win…  Clinton did manage 6 shots on goal but Chapman was able to stop 3 of them while the others sailed wide… The team will be back in action tomorrow as they travel to Broome for a 5:30 match.

College Baseball:

  • Clemson:  The Clemson Tiger baseball team has a successful as they traveled to Pittsburg to take on the Pitt Panthers and took all 2 of 3 games… They won Friday by a score of 3-2 in 11 innings, Saturday 3-0 but fell yesterday when Pitt took a 13-4 win… They will host Liberty tomorrow at 6:30.
  • South Carolina:  The South Carolina baseball team was also on the road as they traveled to the plains of Alabama to take on the Auburn Tigers… The game on Friday was rained out so they played a doubleheader on Saturday… In the first game, Auburn took a 4-2 win… The Gamecocks rebounded in the second game and took a 3-2 win… In the rubber game of the series yesterday, the Gamecocks took a 4-3 win to take the series win… They will host Davidson tomorrow night in    7:00 pm contest.
