Drug Charge Follows Traffic Stop

Laurens County Sheriff’s Lt Marlon Higgenbotham reportedly observed a vehicle travel left of center on Mt Bethel Road at 2:57 Sunday morning and performed a traffic stop on the vehicle. During an investigation that followed .25 gram of methamphetamine was allegedly found around cigarettes. 52-year-old Alan Hughes of 417 Argyle Lane, Laurens was initially charged with Driving Left of Center and with Failure to Register. He was placed in the Johnson Detention Center and also charged with Possession of Methamphetamine. Hughes was released later yesterday on personal recognizance bonds of $5,000 on the drug charge and $155 bonds on the two traffic charges.
