College Notes:
- Clemson Baseball: Over the past weekend the Clemson Tiger baseball team completed its regular season as the hosted the Boston Eagles… Good news for Clemson fans as the Tigers took 2 of 3 from the Eagles… On Thursday they won 8-4 the lost on Friday by a score of 3-1… The Tigers took the series on Saturday by taking a 10-9 win in 13 innings… Jay Baum’s double to right-center on an 0-2 pitch with two outs in the 13th inning plated Garrett Boulware for the walkoff win… The Tigers finish the regular season 34-22 & 15-14 in ACC play…) The Tigers earned the #5 seed in the ACC Baseball Tournament at NewBridge Bank Park in Greensboro tomorrow at 11:00 am as they face off against the Duke Blue Devils in the first game of pool play.
- South Carolina Baseball: The Gamecocks also finished their regular season on Saturday as they conclude at 3-game series in Nashville against the Commodores of Vanderbilt… They won Thursday night by a score of 4-3 in 10 innings with the winning run in the top of the 10th coming on a solo homer from Joey Pankake… They lost 9-3 on Friday and rebounded to take a 6-3 win on Saturday giving them the series win and a season record of 40-16 and 17-13 in SEC play… The Gamecocks finished 2nd in the SEC East and will open SEC Tournament play tomorrow night against the winner of the Mississippi St. vs. Georgia game tonight.
- Lander Baseball: Congratulations to the Lander Bearcat baseball team who early this morning won the South East Region Tournament in Greenwood to earn a trip to the Division II College World Series in Cary, N.C. starting this Saturday.
- PC Baseball: The PC baseball team finished their season this past weekend with a home series against Gardner-Webb… They took 2 of the 3 games to finish their season 19-34-1 overall and 9-18 in Big South Play… Prior to the game they honored their 5 seniors Nate Chong, Chandler Knox, Brandon Paul, Paul Saunders and Brad Zebedis.
Braves: Braves 9 – Brewers 3… The Braves returned home last night and started a 3-game series with the Milwaukee Brewers off on the right foot as the Braves took a 9-3 win over the Brew Crew… The Braves displayed some power last night as Freddie Freeman, Justin Upton and pinch-hitter Ryan Doumit all had homers in the game…. Same 2 teams will go at it again tonight at The Ted.
Greenville Drive: Tourist 10 – Drive 3… The Greenville Dive found themselves trailing 8-0 after 2 innings of play up in Ashville last night and just could not recover as the Tourist went on to take a 10-3 win over the Drive… The teams will finish the current series tonight in Ashville.
Community Interest:
Laurens Raider Baseball will be having a baseball camp June the 9th-12th from 8:30-12:30… Cost of the camp will be $60… Breakfast and lunch will be provided daily thru our school cafeteria… They will limit the camp to the first 40 kids that sign up… Eligible ages will be 7 years old-rising 8th graders… The Raider baseball coaching staff will provide fundamental baseball instruction that will help your child improve his ability as a player… Players will be grouped according to their skill level… Contact head coach Dale Nelson by email: dnelson@laurens55.org to register.
