College Notes:

Lander BaseballSouthern Indiana 6 – Lander 5… The Lander Bearcat baseball team was back in action yesterday in the Division II Baseball finals up in Cary, NC…  The S.I. Screaming Eagles jumped out to a 5-0 lead at the end of 4 innings but Lander rallied putting 4 on the board in the top of the 5th inning but could never get any closer as the Eagles went on to take a 6-5 win… Lander had 7 hits in the game to S.I’s 6 but Lander’s pitchers issued 7 walks and hit 3 Eagle batters which contributed to the loss… Lander now drops into the losers bracket and will face #1 ranked University of Tampa tomorrow at 3:00

  • Columbia Regional… The Gamecocks now also know who they will be hosting in their regional starting Friday… The #2 seed will be Maryland, Old Dominion the #3 and Campbell the #4 seed… Maryland and Old Dominion will play first on Friday at 1:00 pm and Campbell and South Carolina are scheduled for a 7:00 pm first pitch Friday night… All games can be seen on ESPN 3…. And a note here, the winner of the Columbia Regional will advance to play the winner of the regional being hosted by Virginia… If Virginia wins it, it will be at Virginia.
  • Clemson… The Clemson Tigers also made it into the 64 team field and they will travel to Nashville to take part in the regional hosted by Vanderbilt… The Tigers drew a #3 seed in the regional and will play #2 seeded Oregon in the 1:00 pm game on Friday… Vanderbilt will take on #4 seed Xavier in the second game on Friday night…

Braves: Red Sox 8 – Braves 6… The Braves and the defending World Series Champions the Boston Red Sox opened a short 2-game series at The Ted and even though the Braves jumped out to a 6-1 lead at the end of 4 innings, the Sox scored 5 in the 5th to tie the game and 2 in the 7th to take an 8-6 win… Justin Upton and Chris Johnson each had 2 heats each which made up half of the Braves 8 hits… Former Gamecock Jackie Bradley Jr. went hitless for the Red Sox…. The teams will finish the Braves home stand tonight in a 7:10 pm contest.

Greenville Drive: Drive 11 – RiverDogs 3… The Greenville Drive traveled down to Charleston yesterday to start 3-day, 4-game series with the RiverDogs and they sure started off on the right foot as Greenville took an 11-3 win… The teams will play a doubleheader today starting at 6:00 where the second game will be a make-up of a previously rained out game.
