Real Radio 860 WLBG Sports Report:

Welcome this is your Real Radio 860 WLBG sports report and it’s brought to you by PC Athletics… Several of the sports at PC will be having summer camps over the next few weeks… One of the first camps will be a youth football camp conducted by Coach Harold Nichols and his staff… The camp will be June 9-11 and is a day camp for rising 3rd – 8th graders… You can get more details at www.haroldnichols.com.

 

LDHS Football… Raider football fans will get a chance to see what changes have been made under new Head Coach Chris Liner as spring practice concludes today at LDHS with the spring game at 6:00 pm… Hope to see a large crowd out there!

 

Laurens Academy Sports Awards: Earlier this week Laurens Academy held their Annual Varsity Sports Award banquet… Below are the just some of the awards handed out by sport… For a complete list and a photo, click on the following link: Laurens Academy 2013-14 Varsity Athletic Awards

  • Football MVP – Robert Williams
  • Volleyball: Best Offense – Sydney Halbert & Best Defense – Sara Spoone
  • Girls basketball: Offense Award – Taylor Williamson & Defense Award – Savannah Mitchell
  • Boys Basketball MVP – Chase Brewington
  • Softball MVP – Kaitlyn Muir
  • Baseball: MVP Offense – Mathew Urwick & MVP – Defense – Hunter Elwood
  • Golf MVP – Will Burroughs who was also inducted into the Laurens Academy Hall of Fame for Golf
  • Cheerleading – Natalie Tumblin & Carmen McGee both picked up multiple awards.

 

College Notes: Well the NCAA Division I Baseball Regionals begin today so let’s review the where, when and who about our state teams that made it into the 64 team field. 

  • Clemson… The 36-23 Clemson Tigers will open up play in the Nashville regional today at 1 pm as they take on the 42-18 Oregon Ducks… This will be the Tigers 27th tournament appearance in the last 28 years… The game can be seen on ESPN3 … Vanderbilt and Xavier are the other two teams in the regional… Click on the following link for the Nashville Regional Bracket: 2014 Vanderbilt Regional Bracket
  • South Carolina… The 42-16 South Carolina Gamecocks will open play tonight at 7 pm in the regional they are hosting in Columbia… Their opponent will be the 40-19 Camels of Campbell… Carolina is 16-0 in regional play at Carolina Stadium since its opening… The game can be seen on ESPN3… Maryland and Old Dominion are the other two teams in the regional… Click on the following link for the Columbia Regional Bracket: 2014 Columbia Regional Bracket
  • College of Charleston… And last but not least, the 41-17 Cougars of the College of Charleston are also in the field of 64 and will travel to Gainesville, Fl. to participate in the regional hosted by the University of Florida… The Cougars and the Gators will play in the 7 pm game tonight.

 

Braves: Boston 4 – Braves 3… The Braves dropped their 4th game in arrow to the Boston Red Sox last night by a score of 4-3 and it was errors that did the Braves in… An error allowed the Sox to tie the game in the 8th inning and also to win it in the 9th… The Braves board the plane and travel to Florida for a 3-game series with the Marlins starting tonight.

Greenville Drive: Crawdads 4 – Drive 2… The Greenville Drive opened a home stand with the Hickory Crawdads on a bad note last night as Hickory took a 4-2 win over Greenville.

 

Community Interest:

  • Laurens Raider Baseball Camp… Coach Dale Nelson and the Rider baseball staff will be having a baseball camp June the 9th -12th from 8:30-12:30… Cost of the camp will be $60… Breakfast and lunch will be provided daily thru our school cafeteria… They will limit the camp to the first 40 kids that sign up… Eligible ages will be 7 years old-rising 8th graders… The Raider baseball coaching staff will provide fundamental baseball instruction that will help your child improve his ability as a player… Players will be grouped according to their skill level… Contact head coach Dale Nelson by email for more information and to register.  Laurens YMCA:

The Laurens YMCA will be having summer sport and specialty camps all summer long… You can get a $10 discount on each camp by registering the Friday prior to each camp… Call the YMCA at 984-2626 for more information about this or any of the camps…  The following are the next camps on their schedule;

Golf Camp:

  • June 10-12, Ages 7-15, 9:00 – 11:00 am at Lakeside Country Club,
  • Cost: $40 Y-Members, $55 Non-Members

  • Cost: $40 Y-Members, $55 Non-Members
  • This camp will be instructed by LDHS Head Volleyball Coach Diane Raabe
