College Div. I Softball… Well we have talked about a good bit lately about college baseball lately and I don’t want to slight the ladies so let’s talk about the NCAA Division I Softball World Series which wrapped up last night…  The field had been narrowed down to 2 teams competing in the best of 3 series starting on Monday night… The two finalists are both from the SEC and are #2 seeded Alabama and #5 seeded Florida… On Monday night Florida took a 5-0 win over Alabama… Then last night the Florida completed the sweep of the Alabama with a 6-3 win to lay claim to this year’s title.

Braves: Mariners 7 – Braves 5… The Braves jumped out to an early 4-0 lead last night in Atlanta but the Seattle Mariners were able to come back and take a 7-5 win over the Braves… Both teams used the long ball to score last night… For the Braves Evan Gattis had a 3-run homer in the first inning and BJ Upton had a solo shot in the 2nd inning… The Mariners also had 2 homers on the night and a 2-run homer in the 7th inning by the Mariners catcher John Buck to break a 5-5 tie proved to be the winning runs…. The teams will finish their short 2-game series today at Turner Field with the first pitch scheduled for 12:10 this afternoon.

Greenville Drive: Drive 3 – Legends 1… The Greenville Drive made it 2 in a row over the Lexington Legends last night at Flour Field as they took a 3-1 win… All the scoring in this game came in the last few innings with the Drive using 8 hits to get 2 runs in the 6 and 1 in the 8th while holding the Legends to a single run in the 7th inning… This brings the Drive’s record to 29-28 on the season and they will finish their current home stand tonight at 7:10 with game 4 of the current series with the Legends.

Wrap-up of High School Baseball & Softball… I thought I’d take just a moment to put a wrap on the high school baseball and softball seasons that ended early last week by mentioning the teams that won the state championship in their respective classifications…
