Sports Report for Tuesday, 6-10-2014

Braves: Braves 3 – Rockies 1…. After losing 2 out of 3 games with the Arizona Diamondbacks over the weekend, the Braves moved on the Phoenix to start a series with the Colorado Rockies… The Braves got the series off to a good start as they took a 3-1 win… The Braves had only 7 hits but a couple of them were very timely… Third baseman Chris Johnson led the Braves going 3-4 with 2 RBIs.

Greenville Drive: Well I did not have time to catch up with the Greenville Drive yesterday so let’s do that today:

  • Friday: Braves 6 – Drove 1…. After being rained out last Thursday night, the Drive finally started their 4-game series with the Rome (Ga.) Braves on Friday night… The Drive started the series on a sour note as the Braves took a 6-1 win… The Drive had just 3 hits to the Braves 12… The game was tied 1-1 going into the bottom of the 5th inning when the Braves put 4 on the board and the Drive never recovered.
  • Saturday, Game 1: Braves 7 – Drive 4… In the 1st game of a doubleheader, The Drive out hit the Braves 10-9 but that is not what counts as the Braves took a 7-4 win…. Game 2: Drive 5 – Braves 3… In the second game of the doubleheader on Saturday the Drive rebounded to take a 5-3 win….
  • Sunday: Braves 5 – Drive 4…. Then in the final game of the series on Sunday the Drive took 4-1 lead going into the 7th inning when the Braves tied the game scoring 3 runs in the bottom of the 7th… With the score tied in the bottom of the 9th, the Braves won the game by a score of 4-3 using a 1-out walk-off homerun to take the win.
  • Monday: RiverDogs 6 – Drive 2… Last night the Drive returned home to Flour Field to start a 3-game home stand with the Charleston RiverDogs… The Drive’s offensive woes continued as Charleston jumped out to a 3-0 lead at the end on an inning of play and the Drive just could not catch up ad they were limited to 6 hits on the night to the RiverDogs 11.

Laurens County Speedway… Let’s look back at results from last Saturday night’s main event races.

  • Crates… Chris Pendleton took the win in the Crates… Colby Cannon who finished 2nd battled Pendleton all night but fell back on a restart with 3 laps to go… Terry Bullard finished 3rd.
  • Limited… In the Limited main event, Michael Smith took his 2nd win of the season… BJ Eubanks tried to stay close but finished 2nd with Ray Storay finishing 3rd.
  • Hobby… Chris Patterson took the lead early in the Hobby division and took the win… Dan Lawson and Mart Patterson were the next 2 across the finish line.
  • SS4… In the Super Stock 4, T.J. Baker picked up his 4th win of the season holding off Tim Collins… Joe Gibson finished 3rd.
  • FWD… And finally in the FWD, Joel Cabe may have started near the back of the pack but he made that up and took the lead about half-way through the race to take his 3rd win of the season… Newman Presnell and Eddie McGrew finished 2nd and 3rd respectively.
  • 33rd Annual Shrine Race… Now a quick reminder that the 33rd Annual Shrine race will take place out at the LCS tonight… It promises to be a great night of racing as the Carolina Clash Series racers will be in town to participate…. The real winners of the race will be the children served by the Shriners Hospitals as the all the funds will be donated to them… Gates open at 6:00 and racing starts at 8:00 out at the LCS where they do dirt right!
