Building on Public Square Comes Down

Big equipment was moved into Downtown Laurens last week in preparation for a long-awaited project today. The crumbling building at the corner of North Harper and East Main is to be torn down today. Carolina Wrecking announced last month that the demolition work will continue with debris removal Tuesday and Wednesday.

Laurens City Administrator Gary Coleman said that while the block of East Main in front of the building will be closed for the work, Harper Street will remain open. Coleman said there could be some intermittent traffic stops, and that southbound traffic will be diverted into the turning lane to be a bit further from the building.
