Robbery Suspects Arrested Quickly

Sunday Night a victim called the LCSO to report when he and his wife returned home from work, they observed their home had been burglarized. Lt.Higgenbotham and Sgt. Moye arrived on scene and spoke to the victim. The victim said there were only 3 people that knew where his safe is located in his home and gave the subject’s names. The victim said the side door of his residence had been forced open and one of the subjects used to reside with him and knew how to get in. The safe and it’s contents had been stolen. No other items in the home were disturbed. The victim said that in the safe was a Taraus Public Defender .45/410, a gold debit card and several bottles of medication. The victim stated that his father in law, who lives next door, observed a silver buick with two males at ther victims home between 3 and 4 pm. The father in law identified one of them as a suspect. After clearing the scene, Lt. Higgenbotham placed a bolo out for a Buick. The vehicle was located at a residence in the city of Laurens. Both subjects mentioned by the victim were at this home. After questioning, the subject at the residence stated he had no involvement in the burglary and gave consent to look for the stolen items. Sgt. Moye found the revolver, debit card with the victim’s name on it and a holster in a bedroom. Both subjects were Mirandized and placed under arrest. A further search revealed the stolen medication. Both subjects then admitted to the crime.

William Alexander “Alex” Kellet, age 28 of 123 My Way Drive Gray Court was charged with Second Degree Burglary, Petit Larceny, and Safecracking and is being held on $37,000 bond and 29 year old Scottie Wayne Burkhalter of 120 Pine Street Laurens is charged with Second Degree Burglary, Petit Larceny, Safe Cracking and possession of a controlled substance and is being held on $42,000 bond.

Warrants state on june 15th Burkhalter and Kellet entered a dwelling on Fleming Mill Rd. without consent, did break open a safe which was used for keeping valuables with intent to commit larceny, did take away items valued at $2000 or less belonging to the victim with intent to deprive victim, and did knowingly and intentionally possess amphetamine and dextroamphetamine, a schedule II controlled substance without authority to do so
