Sports Report for Thursday, 6-19-2014

College Notes: Texas 1 – UC Irvine 0… There was only one game out in Omaha yesterday and that game ended with Texas taking a 1-0 win over UC Irvine sending the Anteaters home and the Longhorns into a semifinals contest with Vanderbilt on Friday afternoon with the Commodores needing just 1 win to advance to the finals while Texas must beat Vanderbilt twice to do the same… Mississippi will play TCU tonight in the only game scheduled for today in the CWS.

Braves: Phillies 10 – Braves 5… The brooms were out in Atlanta yesterday but it was the Phillies doing the sweeping as they took a 10-5 win over the Braves thus taking all 3 games of the current series… The Braves enjoyed a 4-2 lead at the end of the first inning due in part to Evan Gattis extending his hitting streak to 17 games with a 2-run homer in the opening frame… However the Phillies responded putting 5 runs on the board in the top of the 2nd inning and held the Braves to just 1 more run the remainder of the game as they posted 3 more to take a 10-5 win… The Braves packed their bags for a long 10-day road trip with the first stop being in Washington tonight to start a 4-game series with the NL East leading Nationals.
