Well football season will be here before you know it and PC will open up on the road at Northern Illinois on Thursday night, August 28th…. 7 on 7 Contest…. The Laurens Raider football team will be hosting a 7-7 this morning at 10:00 am… You Red Devil fans may want to come over as Clinton will be one of seven other teams participating… The other teams are Ware Shoals, JL Mann, Union, Spartanburg, Saluda and Mauldin… Come on out and watch as the teams sharpen their passing skills for the upcoming season.


Countdown to Start of Football Season: Hang on football fans it’s only 59 days until Clinton opens up its football season at AC Flora, 65 days until PC opens up at Northern Illinois and 66 days until Laurens host BHP in the start of the Chris Liner era at LDHS.


Little League 9-10 All-Stars Team… The Laurens Little League Green 9-10 Year Old All-Star team opened action in the District 1 Tournament in Easley over the weekend… On Saturday they lost their first game 10-9 to the host Easley Team… Laurens has the bases loaded in the final inning but could not get the clutch hit… On Sunday it was a different story as the team rallied in the 6th inning to take a 13-12 win… The team members are Jaylyn Koon, Damian Pace, Mason Hamby, Parker Clarke, Jay Pulley, Thomas Lowry, Brian Sheffield, Jaylin Alexander, Jace Bishop, Griffin Abell and Sam Powers… The coaches are Jerry Pitts, Jamie Bishop and Michael Martin.


College Baseball Notes: Vanderbilt 9 – Virginia 8… In case you did not stay up past midnight last night, Vanderbilt took a 9-8 over Virginia in the first game of the best of 3 series for the CWS Championship… Virginia jumped out to a 2-0 lead at the end of the first inning and it stayed that way until Vanderbilt put 9 runs on the board in the 3rd inning on only 6 hits…  Virginia clawed its way back into the game scoring 3 in the bottom of the 3rd, 2 in the 5th and 1 in the 8th but then went down in order in the 9th as Vanderbilt hangs on to take the win… Game 2 is tonight at 8:00

Braves: The Braves were off last night and will start a 4 game series out in Houston tonight against the Astros… The Braves are currently in 2nd place in the NL east just 1.5 games behind the Washington Nationals and just 1 game ahead of 3rd place Miami… Now a quick reminder that the 85th MLB All-Star Game will be July 15th at Target Field the home of the Minnesota Twins… The All-Star voting has started and will be open until just before midnight on July 3rd… You can vote multiple time.… If you are interested, click on the following link: MLB All-Star Voting

Greenville Drive: Drive 14 – Tourist 6…. The Greenville Drive started off a4-game series up in Ashville with the Tourist in a very positive way as they took a 14-6 win… The Drive expanded a 2-0 lead in the 3rd inning by plating 6 runs in the inning and then adding 5 more in the 6th in route to the win… The Tourist did not go quietly into the night as they scored 5 of their 6 runs in the bottom of the 9th inning… The Drive got their 14 runs on 20 hits and none of the hits was a homerun.

Football Officials Wanted… Have you ever sat in the stands at a football game and said to yourself I can do as good a job as those “blind zebras” out there… Well now is your chance to prove that… The District 13 Football Officials Association is looking for a few good men or women to who want to be football officials… If you are interested, call Brian Shealy at the Clinton YMCA… The phone number there is 833-1555… Also you can come to their meetings which are held each Monday night in the meeting room at the Clinton YMCA to get more information… The meetings start at 6:00 pm… The last date to join them is Sunday, July 13th.
