7 on 7 passing ContestBoth Laurens and Clinton High participated in a multi-team 7 on 7 passing contests at LDHS yesterday… The 10:00 am start and clouds enabled them to avoid the hot afternoon sun but it was still warm and humid but both squads had spirited workouts… Click on the following to hear comments from both Scott King of CHS and Coach Chris Liner of LDHS:

Laurens Green 10 – Gold 4… Back on Monday night up in Easley, the Laurens Green 9-10 All-Stars defeated the Laurens Gold team 10-4… Jay Pulley, Jaylin Alexander and Parker Clark all had multiple hits for the Green team… The Green team improves to 2-1 in the tournament while the Gold team goes to 0-2… For more information check out the following link to a posting on : Laurens Green 9-10 All-Stars top Laurens Gold.

LDHS places 3 on Big League World Series Team…On Monday the members of the District 1 host team for the upcoming Big League World Series in Easley was announced and 2 current and 1 recent members of the LDHS Raider baseball team made the squad… They are current Raiders Grayson Bailes and Thomas Jones as well 2014 graduate Cody Smiley… Wren and BHP also placed 3 players on the roster for the host team which will start play at the J.B. “Red” Owens Recreation Center on July 23rd… This will be the 14th year that Easley has hosted the series and the host team has won the championship 4 times in that period… For more information about the Big League District 1 team and the tournament, click on the following link: District 1 Host Team Announced College


World Series Notes: Virginia 7 – Vanderbilt 2… Game 2 of the College World Series finals took place last night and Virginia needed a win to stay alive in the best of 3 series and that is just what they did as they defeated the Commodores 7-2… Vanderbilt led 2-1 going into the top of the 6th inning when Virginia struck for 3 runs and added 2 more in the 7th and 1 in the 9th to take the win… This sets up a winner take all game tonight at 8:00 pm. 


Braves: Braves 3 – Astros 2… The Atlanta Braves opened up a 4-game series last night in Houston with the Astros and opened it on a positive note as they took a 3-2 win… Houston opened the game with a solo homer in the first inning but the Braves came back scoring single runs in the 2nd, 3rd & 4th inning and then held on to take the win… BJ Upton and his brother Justin both had solo homers for the Braves…  Craig Kimbrel picked up his 22nd save of the year.

Greenville Drive: Tourist 5 – Drive 2… After winning the opening game of the 4-game series with the Ashville Tourist on Monday night up in N.C., the Drive came up 1 run short as they lost 5-4 evening the series at a game each… The Drive trailed 5-1 going into the 8th inning when they put 3 runs on the board but could get no closer… Game 3 of the current series is tonight in Ashville.

Countdown to Start of Football Season: Hang on football fans it’s only 58 days until Clinton opens up its football season at AC Flora, 64 days until PC opens up at Northern Illinois and 65 days until Laurens host BHP in the start of the Chris Liner era at LDHS.

Football Officials Wanted… Have you ever sat in the stands at a football game and said to yourself I can do as good a job as those “blind zebras” out there… Well now is your chance to prove that… The District 13 Football Officials Association is looking for a few good men or women to who want to be football officials… If you are interested, call Brian Shealy at the Clinton YMCA… The phone number there is 833-1555… Also you can come to their meetings which are held each Monday night in the meeting room at the Clinton YMCA to get more information… The meetings start at 6:00 pm… The last date to join them is Sunday, July 13th.

Art Camp

  • July 8-10, Ages: 6-9 / 10-15, 8:30 – 10:00 am / 10:30 – Noon @ Laurens YMCA
  • Cost: $45 Y-Members, $60 Non-Members
  • Capacity 20 per age group, Instructed by Cindy Wright

Wrestling Camp 

  • July 8-10, Ages: 5-13, 9:00 – 11:00 @ Laurens High School
  • Cost: $40 Y-Members, $50 Non-Members
  • Instructed by LDHS Wresting Coach Rob Sheffield and Joseph Kemp

Fishing Camp

  • July 15-17, Ages: 7 – Up, 9:00 – 11:00 @ Lakeside Country Club
  • Cost: $40 Y-Members, $55 Non-Members
  • For beginning anglers instructed by Jerry Poole
