New Life for Historic Laurens Movie Theatre

Laurens businessman Ronnie Campbell and his wife invested in Downtown Laurens many years ago, bringing back the historic Capitol Theatre on the Public Square. This week, they’re bringing the historic movie house into the 21st century with new a digital sound and video system which will allow for showing all newly released movie. Ronnie Campbell told WLBG yesterday the new digital system will improve the viewing experience. “It’s going (to) be a big improvement on viewing and a big difference in the sound system.” He said the new system was installed this week. “We started Sunday and Monday installing the sound system, and then they showed up with the digital projector on Monday….and Monday and Tuesday and finalizing the wiring the rest of the week.”

The new digital system at the Historic Capitol Theatre on the Laurens Square debuts today with Disney’s Planes, Fire and Rescue. Campbell said show-times today (Friday) are at 1:00, 4:00 and 7:00 pm.
