Laurens County Council this week joined with local city governments in approving a resolution of support for the Laurens County Trails Association. Both Laurens and Clinton City Councils had approved such resolutions earlier in the month. While the local government endorsements don’t include funds for the trails, these Resolutions of Support are considered helpful for the process of applying for grants.
On WLBG’s Morning News Magazine yesterday morning, Tails Association Director Don Walker said they are now in the process of applying to the National Forest Service for assistance in establishing trails. He said should the Forest Service approve the Laurens County request, “they will come in and help us build a Master Plan for Laurens County. And then they’ll help us identify feasible routes for our trail connecting from Swamp Rabbit in Fountain Inn to Palmetto Trail in Sumter Forest, and then help us weed through several public meetings to explore those feasible routes and get public input on them – which ones make more sense.”
