A Greenwood man was arrested by the Laurens County Sheriff’s office yesterday in connection with an alleged assault as well as damage to vehicles with an axe this spring. 24-year-old John Charles Wright of 104 South Trout Street, Greenwood was charged with two counts of Malicious Damage and with Assault and Battery 3rd Degree.
Lt. Cheek states that Wright assaulted another man at 129 Walker Street May 18th by striking him in the face. Also on that date and at that Waterloo location, John Charles Wright is alleged to have done $2,000 damage or less to two vehicles. He allegedly broke out windows and headlights of a 1990 Chevy Van and a 1984 Ford Ranger and struck the hood of both vehicles with an axe back in May.
John Charles Wright was being held overnight in the Johnson Detention Center, pending arraignment on the assault and malicious damage charges.
Three days after the Walker Street incident John Wright had a court date. The Sheriff’s Office yesterday served him with a Bench Warrant that cites a May 21st, 2014 conviction in Magistrate’s Court on a Driving without a License charge. A sentence was set at 30 days or $237.
