The Laurens Commission of Public Works held a cook-off yesterday afternoon, selecting a different dish of food from local cooks for each month of the year on the 2015 CPW calendar.
The Grand Prize winner was Ashlyn Lynch of Laurens, whose winning entry was a Shrimp and Grits dish that had an extra touch with the use of pimento cheese. She told WLBG News that during some experimentation with the dish she tried adding some of her aunt’s pimento cheese and that added “a different kind of taste to it.”
Although her Dad is a cook, Ashlyn said that her career goal is to become an Occupational Therapist and work in a school district with autistic kids. The rising senior at Lander said she prefers to cook meals at school instead of spending money eating out. Ashlyn Lynch received a $100 Main Street Laurens Gift Certificate.
All 12 winners will be featured on one month of next year’s CPW calendar, which will be released around Thanksgiving.
