Local Notes

Big League World Series: Southeast 6 – SC 0… Well the host team SC Dist 1 saw their run at the Big League World Series come to an end last night as they lost 6-0 to a team from Tampa, Fl representing the Southeast… SC had defeated this same team 7-6 on Saturday but last night there was one big difference from their previous encounter and that was simply that Bradford Depperman pitched last night and he did not on Saturday… Depperman is a right-hand pitcher out of East Lake HS in Tarpon Springs, Fl who was recently picked in the 31st round of the MLB Draft and last night held the SC team to just 1 hit while striking out 8 and walking only 1… SC was able to escape a bases loaded situation in the first inning to keep[ the SE team off the board but they could not keep them off the board in the 2nd when they scored 1 run then added 2 in the 3rd and 3 in the 4th while Depperman held SC in check… The Southeast team will play the team from Puerto Rico tonight at 6:30 for the BLWS Championship… For the game scorecard, click on the following: 7-29-14-BLWS-SCD1-Southeast_Scorecard    For the game boxes core and some tournament statistics for the SC Dist 1 team, click on the following link: 7-29-14-BLWS-SCD1-Southeast

Braves: Dodgers 8 – Braves 4… The Braves started a western road trip last night with an 8-4 loss to the Dodgers… The Braves led 4-2 going into the bottom of the 5th inning when the Dodgers tied it then took the lead in the 7th when they scored 3 more in route to the win… Dodger left fielder Matt Kemp had a pair of 2-run homers to lead the Dodgers and the Braves Freddie Freeman tried to keep up with Kemp but could only muster a single 2-run homer in the 3rd inning… Tommy La Stella had 3 of the Braves 12 hits… Game 2 of the 3-game series with the Dodgers will be at 10:10 tonight.

Greenville Drive: Suns 8 – Drive 4… The Greenville Drive finished their series with the Hagerstown Suns last night in Maryland and they managed to hang with the Suns for 5.5 innings as the game was tied 4-4 going into the bottom of the 6th when the Suns struck for 3 runs and added another in the 7th to take an 8-4 win over the Drive… The Drive are off tonight and will return home tomorrow night.
