Deputy Jamie Lee Edwards was dispatched to M & M Scrap Yard on Highway 101 at 4 yesterday afternoon on a report that a vehicle that was brought in to be scrapped was showing a stolen on the State DMV system. The officer spoke with the man and woman who brought the black Jeep to the yard. They reportedly indicated the husband had purchased the vehicle from North Carolina and was given a salvage rebuilt title, and that he had transported it to Abbeville County, where he lives and had it titled to his wife for insurance purposes. The woman reportedly stated she had the vehicle titled in her name in Abbeville and had been driving it for three years. Deputy Edwards checked the tag on the vehicle and determined it was for a Jeep, but not the one at the Scrap Yard. He then arrested the two and placed them in the Laurens County Detention Center. They were booked there as 47-year-old Bobby Junior Waters and 37-year-old Angela Johnson Waters of 4800 Shady Grove Road, Honea Path, an Eastern Anderson County address. Charges of Possession of Stolen Property were to be sought today. The 1996 Jeep Cherokee, listed with a value of $1,500, is reportedly property of a resident of Ellenboro, North Carolina. Deputy Edwards noted that NCIC indicates Mr. Waters also is wanted by Abbeville.
