The 10th Annual School Supplies Drive is here. United Way Volunteers will be stationed outside Wal-Mart in Laurens today from Noon until 5:00 pm and tomorrow from 10:00 am until 4:00 pm to accept school supplies on behalf of students through Laurens County School Districts 55 and 56. This drive gives local residents an opportunity to assist area schools in providing much-needed school supplies to our county’s underprivileged children as explained earlier this week here on the WLBG Morning News Magazine by Whitney Robertson of the United Way. “What we try to do is collect school Supplies. We collect them throughout the month of August, but we have our Main Drive at Wal-Mart, Friday and Saturday of Tax Free Weekend.”
School officials have prepared a list of supplies commonly needed in their schools. Robertson said the list can be accessed online at www.uwlc-online.org, or by calling the United Way office at 864-833-3623. The list will also be available today and tomorrow at the Big weekend Push for school supplies at Wal-Mart.
Following the initial push today and tomorrow, several local locations will continue accepting school supplies from their employees and from the public through August. They are the School District Offices on West Main in Laurens and North Broad in Clinton, L & L Office Supply in both towns and at GHS-Laurens County Memorial Hospital between Laurens and Clinton. Other locations in the Laurens area include the Sheriff’s Office, Laurens County Water and Sewer, both PRTC locations and Raymond James. Other Clinton area locations include The M.S. Bailey Municipal Center, Steamers, Asten Johnson, CrossFit864, Sterilite and the United Way Office. In Gray Court, ISO Poly-Films will be accepting donations following the initial supplies drive.
