Local Notes:  

Bell Street Notes: Today there will be two events related to fall sports at Bell Street today… At 9:00 am this morning any young ladies who would like to try out for volleyball should be at the old CHS gym… Also at 5:00 pm there will a meeting for parents of Bell Street football players… All parents of football players at Bell Street are requested to be there…. By the way there will be a football practice afterwards.



Braves: The Braves continued their west coast road trip this weekend with a 3 game series in San Diego with the Padres…

  • Friday: Padres 10 – Braves 1… In what could be called the ugliest loss of the season for Atlanta, the Padres took a 10-1 win on Friday night… The Braves’ pitching staff gave up 20 hits on the night while the Atlanta offense struggled getting just 4 hits… Braves starter Mike Minor lasted on 5 innings giving up 9 hits, 5 runs and 2 homers… The Braves Chris Johnson had 2 of the Braves 4 hits and their lone RBI in the 4th inning.
  • Saturday: Padres 3 – Braves 2… On Saturday the Braves came back and outhit the Padres 11-9 but hits are not what counts as the Padres took a 3-2 win over the Braves in 12 innings… The game was tied 2-2 going into extra innings when in the 12th inning Craig Kimbrel (in his 2nd inning of work) walked the bases full and then gave up a walk-off single to the Padres Will Venable for the loss… Freddie Freeman led the Braves going 3-5 with an RBI.
  • Sunday: Padres 4 – Braves 3… Yesterday the Braves and the Padres went into extra innings (10) and unfortunately like the day before the Braves suffered a 1-run loss to the Padres this time by a score of 4-3… Jason Heyward scored the tying run in the top of the 9th innings after doubling to begin the inning and later scored… The Padres got the winning run with 2 out in the 10th inning off Braves reliever David Hale… Jason Heyward led the Braves going 3-4 with a single, double and a triple while scoring twice and driving in 1 run… The Braves are off today and will start a 2 game series in Seattle Tuesday night.


Greenville Drive: The Greenville Drive finished their 4-game series with Rome Braves in Greenville over the weekend…

  • Friday: Braves 5 – Drive 1… On Friday night the Drive collected more hits than the Braves (8-5) but less runs as they loss 5-1… The Drive did not get their lone run until the last inning.
  • Saturday: Drive 4 – Braves 2… The Drive rebounded Saturday and took a 4-2 win… The Drive got 10 hits with their centerfielder Manuel Margit leading the way going 3-4 with a homer.
  • Sunday: Braves 4 – Drive 2… Yesterday the Braves turned the tables back in their favor as they took a 4-2 win over the Drive meaning they won the series 3 games to 1… The Drive led 2-1 going into the top of the 9th inning when they gave up 3 runs to lose the game… The drive fall to 11-32 in the second half of their season and will remain at home for a short series with the Augusta GreenJackets starting tonight.

Countdown to Start of Football Season: Hang on football fans it’s only 18 days until Clinton opens up its football season at AC Flora, 24 days until PC opens up at Northern Illinois and 25 days until Laurens host BHP in the start of the Chris Liner era at LDHS.

  • Season Tickets on sale For CHS Football… Season football tickets are now on sale at CHS for the upcoming football season… They can be purchased Mon. – Thur. from 8:00am – 3:30 pm in the business office… You need to ask for Ms. Ginger Eaton (938-1844) and will be $40 per ticket with 1 parking pass per family… For those 65 and older the season ticket is free but a parking pass will cost $20.00… Clinton has 5 home games this season… They are: Sept 12 – Woodruff, Sept. 19 – Laurens, Oct. 3 – Broome (Homecoming), Oct 17 – Union County & Oct 31 – south Pointe (Senior Night).
