Sports Report for Thursday, 8-7-2014

Local Notes

Laurens County Speedway…. As usual on Wednesday or Thursday I bring you the results from the LCS the previous Saturday night… Well it will not take me long to do that today as mother nature won all the events last Saturday night by raining them out… Weather permitting they will be back in action this Saturday night with gates opening at 6:00 and racing starting at 8:00… You know their motto is that at the LCS they do dirt (not mud) right.

SEC Network… Well I know that there are many fans in the area that do not pull exclusively for Clemson or South Carolina… I know some Georgia Bulldog, Tennessee Volunteer and even a few Alabama fans… Well it was announced yesterday the new SEC Network which starts in a week will be available on Charter so those fans can keep up with their schools… That means that it will be on 8 different communication providers including AT&T, Dish and Direct TV which have availability in this area… Wonder when the ACC will get a network, I’m thinking not too long from now myself.

Braves: Seattle 7 – Braves 3… The Atlanta Braves had their losing streak extended to 8 games yesterday afternoon as the dropped a 7-3 decision to the Seattle Mariners in Seattle… All 8 of the loses have come on a western road trip and it is their worst road trip for any Braves team in 65 years… The Braves jumped out to a 3-1 lead going into the bottom of the 3rd inning when the Mariners put 4 runs on the board to take a 5-1 lead which they added to with single runs in the in the 5th and 7th innings… Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman led the team going 3-4 with 2 RBIs while Jason Heyward and Evan Gattis both went 2-4… Julio Teheran took the loss going 6 innings and giving up 6 earned runs…. The Braves will have the night off tonight and will start a 10 day home stand on Friday with the first team coming to Atlanta being the Washington Nationals who now lead the Braves by 4 games in the NL East…

Greenville Drive: Greenville 5 – Augusta 3… Well last night the Greenville Drive did something they have not done often this season and that is win 3 games in a row as they defeated the Augusta GreenJackets 5-3 at Flour Field… As a matter of fact is back on July 13th that they won their last 3 in a row and that was against the GreenJackets also… The Drive finally got their bats going as they had 13 hits and held the GreenJackets scoreless until the top of the 9th when Augusta got all 3 of their runs… Cole Sturgeon led the Drive going 3-4… The Drive will start a 4 day road trip tonight with all 4 games being played in Lexington, Kentucky with the Legends.

Carolina Panthers Training Camp schedule… The Carolina Panthers will have their final practice in Spartanburg this morning at 9:25 before they take a break for their first pre-season game tomorrow night in Charlotte against the Buffalo Bills… After that, there will be only 3 more opportunities to see the Panthers practice in Spartanburg before they break training camp for this season… Click on the following link to see the Carolina Panthers Training Camp schedule: Panthers Training Camp Schedule
