Woman Assaulted, Man Stabbed

Clinton Public Safety was dispatched to South Bell Street Circle at 9:56 last night on a report of a man being stabbed. While en route another call came in about a fight occurring at 1606 South Bell. Officers arriving at both locations indicate they soon learned the two cases were connected. Officer Doug Richardson reports observing a male subject standing on the side of the roadway near South Bell Circle and South Bell Street who was bleeding heavily from his head down to his chest. The 55-year-old man reportedly gave a name identifying who had stabbed him, and the house where it had occurred. He said the subject had stabbed him in the head from behind. EMS was called to the scene. They had the victim airlifted to Greenville Memorial due to the extent of his injuries. Officer Richardson then joined Officer Kasey Templeton at 1606 South Bell Street where blood was observed on the ground in the yard, on a van and on a porch. The subject’s wife was reportedly sitting in a lawn chair on the porch with minor cuts and scrapes.

She reportedly told of being assaulted by her estranged husband until the owner of the residence demanded he stop. Officers searched the neighborhood without locating the suspect. At 1:30 this morning, he reportedly turned himself in to Public Safety. 49-year-old Kirk Willis of 120 East Bluford Street, Clinton was being held in Clinton Jail this morning, pending charges expected to charge him with Assault and Battery in the 1st Degree for the assault on the other man and with Criminal Domestic Violence 3rd offense and Violation of a Court Order of Protection for the alleged assault on his wife.
