10 is “Not Too Young” for Arrest

Laurens Police were dispatched at 7:48 last evening on a report of a 10-year-old assaulting a 13-year-old in the Northeast portion of town. A man reported his son had been assaulted by the younger boy. Sgt. Pittman talked with the alleged offender, who said the older boy had called him names so he hit him in the head with his fist. The officer explained that even 10-year-olds can get arrested for that, and that assault is not the answer to name calling. Charges were not pressed by the victim’s father last night.
