Car Can’t Be Held as Ransom

A Laurens Police Officer was dispatched at 9:09 last night on a report of a vehicle theft that turned into a case of a landlord-tenant dispute. A woman said she had been evicted from her previous residence by her landlord. She said when she returned to the former residence last evening to pick up a car she had left in the yard she found it was gone. She said she called the x-landlord asking about the car, and that the landlord replied she would not tell her where her car was until she paid the landlord $50 for having her trash hauled off. Sgt. Pittman attempted to contact the landlord to advise she could not hold the woman’s car for ransom, but was unable to make contact last evening. The evicted woman said she didn’t want to prosecute as long as she got her car back.
