Man Held; No Charges Yet from Fire at Bailey Manor

An elderly man was being held in the Laurens County Detention Center earlier today, as an investigation continued into yesterday afternoon’s events at Bailey Manor on Jacobs Highway in Clinton. The man was initially among the eight receiving emergency room treatment for smoke inhalation following a fire at Bailey Manor. Public Safety Director Robin Morse said a man drove a car thru the front door and some 20 to 30 feet thru the Lobby and down a hallway, and was then combative with a Public Safety Officer who was trying to get him out of the car. A fire inside the building began after an explosion in the car, according to Chief Morse. Bailey Manor Administrator Rita Stanley credited regular monthly training for having all 40 residents evacuated within 8 minutes yesterday afternoon. Some residents were staying at the NHC next door, while others were with family and some at Presbyterian Communities of Clinton.
