CHS

  • Red Devils Tennis Play Today For Upper State Championship…. As I mentioned yesterday, the Red Devil boy’s tennis team will be playing for the upper state championship today at the CHS tennis courts… Yesterday I did not know who the opponent would be but I can tell you know that it will be West Oak… The match will start at 5:00 pm and they want all the Red Devil fans to come out and support the team as they try to punch their ticket to the Class AAA finals on Saturday… By the Way they want to wear red so as to have a Red Out… Good luck to the Red Devils!
  • CHS Physicals… Athletic Trainer Nora Ann Pace wants all 2017-18 student-athletes to attend athletic physicals today, at 5:15 in the CHS gym…  The cost is $15 per student-athlete…Any student-athlete planning to participate in summer workouts at CHS MUST have this new physical on file.  No exceptions…Forms are available here and from Coach Webb, Ms. Pace, and Ms. Templeton

  

College Notes:

  • Div. I baseball Poll… It’s been a while since we had time to mention the D-I college baseball rankings so let’s take a quick look at those now according to the USA Today Coaches Poll… Oregon State with a 38-4 record continues to hold down the top spot with Louisville, North Carolina, Texas tech, and Florida rounding out the top 5… TCU comes in at #6 and Clemson with a 35-12 record at #7… Kentucky, Mississippi State, and Virgina round out the top 10… To see the entire top 25, click here.
  • Div. I SoftballGiving equal time to the ladies, the USA Today Coaches Poll in softball has Florida #1 with a 50-5 record… Minnesota, Oregon, Florida State, and Arizona round out the top 5… Spots 6-10 are occupied by Oklahoma, Auburn, Washington, Tennessee and UCLA… Again to see the entire top 25 poll, click here.

  • Astros 8 – Braves 3… The Braves started their road trip in Houston last night and right off the bat the Braves gave up 5 runs in the bottom of the first inning and could only muster 3 runs in the 6th inning themselves as they lost to the Astros 8-3… The Astros only outhit the Braves 9-6 but two of thir hits were homers… For more information on this game, click here…. The two teams play again at 2:10 this afternoon.
  • Drive… The Greenville Drive took the night off last night and start a road trip today with the first stop being up in Lakewood, NJ to take on the BlueClaws… The Drive are off to a good start this year with a 20-10 record which puts them in first place in the South Atlantic League South 3.5 games ahead of the Rome Braves who are in second place.

  • Laurens Sings Auditions May 6th and 11th -The City of Laurens Parks and Recreation Dept. announced last week a new singing competition to be held during the summer of 2017 which is taking the place of Laurens Idol, which entertained audiences for nine seasons. The competition is open to ages 8 and up… Laurens Sings will include the top 15 finalists after auditions are completed… Open auditions will be held on Saturday, May 6 at 10am and Thursday, May 11 at 6:30pm. All auditions will be held at The Ridge at Laurens… All audition participants will be asked to sing a one-minute a cappella version of a song of their choice. Auditions are open to individuals, groups and bands. Judges will select 15 finalists for the Laurens Sings competition. The finalists will be announced on Monday, May 15… Laurens Sings will offer participants a chance to sing each week during the three-week preliminaries beginning June 8. Preliminaries will be held on June 8, 15 and 22. The top 15 will perform each week and then online voting will be combined with judges voting to determine the rankings after each week of performances…After each week of performances, the top 15 will be ranked 1 through 15. The No. 1 ranked performer after the June 8 and June 15 performances will receive $50. The No. 1 ranked performer after the June 22 performances will receive $100… The top 15 will perform in the finale on June 29. The winner will be announced at the Riverfront Freedom Festival on July 3.   • Laurens Adult Basketball League… The Laurens Adult Basketball League (LABL) will kick off its inaugural season on June 5, 2017…The LABL will take the first six teams to register for the 2017 season. The LABL is open to teams consisting of players ages 16 and up… Teams must submit a roster with a maximum of 10 players before their first game. All players must have matching jerseys with visible numbers… Games will be played at The Ridge at Laurens on Monday’s and Wednesday’s from June 5 to June 28. Game times will be 6pm, 7pm and 8pm. The top 4 teams will advance to the semifinals on Thursday, July 6 with the championship game being played on Monday, July 10… Registration is open now and will continue until Friday, May 26 at The Ridge at Laurens… The cost to register is $100 per team… Each team will also be responsible for paying a $30 referee fee at each game… There will be a mandatory team captains meeting on Wednesday, May 31 at 6pm at The Ridge at Laurens… For more information, contact Jason Pridgen at laurensprd@yahoo.com or 864-681-7275.
  • CHS Athletic Booster Golf Tournament… Athletic Director Nickie Templeton and Booster Club President Buddy Bridges have released information about the 2107 CHS Booster Club Golf Tournament… This year, the tournament will be held at Musgrove Mill, on July 27…  Registration begins at 8:30…  For more information: CHS Golf Tourney Brochure 2017… This is a major fundraiser for our Red Devil student-athletes, and it is also a lot of fun… GO BIG RED!
