PC Notes

Baseball… The Blue Hose baseball team wrapped up their participation in the Big South Baseball Championship Tournament last Sunday where they did a lot better than some folks expected, so let’s recap how things went… You can get more details on each game by clicking on its score.

  • Thursday: PC 6 – UNC-A 4… As you may recall, I reported last Friday that PC opened up their tournament participation on Thursday where they defeated UNC-A by a score of 6-4
  • Friday: PC 7 – Gardner-Webb 6… In Friday’s game against G-W, PC jumped out to a 3-0 lead after 2 innings of play but the Runnin Bulldogs tied the game putting 3 on the board in the 4th inning… By the time to 9th inning rolled around PC had responded and led 7-4… G-W tried to battle back in the top of the 9th as they scored two runs before PC could get the third out making the final score 7-6.
  • Saturday: Winthrop 4 – PC 3… Then on Saturday the Blue Hose took on the #1 seeded Winthrop Eagles and lost a heartbreaker by a score of 4-3… PC led 3-1 going into the bottom of the 9th inning when the Eagles rallied and scored 3 runs to take the win… The loss forced the Blue Hose into an early Sunday morning game with the eagles to see who would advance to championship game later on Sunday
  • Sunday: PC 9 – Winthrop 4 (7)… On Sunday morning, the Blue Hose wasted little time in their quest for revenge for the 9th inning loss the night before as they scored 5 runs in the first inning and then went on to a 9-4 win over Winthrop in 7 innings… Cletis Avery and AJ Priaulx both homered in the first inning for the Blue Hose…
  • Sunday: Radford 9 – PC 2… Then on Sunday Afternoon PC and Radford faced off for the Big South Championship… The game was tied 1-1 going into the top of the 5th inning when Radford broke it open scoring 6 runs and then went on to a 9-2 win and the Big South Championship… PC finished the season with 32 wins (against 29 losses), a Division I era record and the most by a PC team since 2000 when it won 37 games. The Blue Hose finished third in the Big South standing, its highest ever finish, and went on to make its first appearance in the Big South Championship game… Congratulations to the Blue Hose on a fine season.
