Raider Baseball Awards…. Before the last baseball season gets to be too far back in the rearview mirror let me tell you of some post season awards picked up by various Raiders…

  • JV Awards: Nick Robertson- Most Improved Award, Heath Bragg- Gold Glove Award and Zach Rice- Coaches Award
  • Varsity Awards; Ethan Jones- Silver Slugger Award, Nick Howell- Captains Award, Nate Towles- Most Improved, Nathan Weiss- Coaches Award and Layton Mahon- Gold Glove Award.
  • All-Region: Ethan jones, Jalen Bragg, Morgan French and Jared Cvetko

Raider Camps

  • Raider Youth Football Camp… This year’s Laurens Raider youth football camp will take place tomorrow at the Raider practice / soccer field just behind the softball field… Coach Liner, his staff, former / current players and some other current / former college players will be teaching the basic fundamentals of various aspects of the game… There will be NO tackling… The camp is open to those in the first through rising ninth graders… Registration will be from 7:30 to 8:30 am and campers are to be picked up between 12:30 and 1:00 pm… The cost is $20 cash only and is to be paid at registration… Campers should bring athletic clothing, tennis shoes or cleats and sunscreen… Snacks, water and Gatorade will be provided… If you have any questions or want to reserve a spot, contact Coach Liner at 864-232-2472 of celiner@laurens55.org… Why don’t you make plans to bring your son or grandson out tomorrow for proper instruction and a fun time. 
  • Raider Youth Baseball Camp… Coach Patterson, his staff and both current and former players will be conducting a youth baseball camp July 10-13… The camp is open to all youth in the community between the ages of 7-13…. The basic fundamentals including throwing, catching, hitting, base running, and pitching will be covered… Water and snacks for the campers will be provided with plenty of breaks between periods each day… The camp will be held at Ed Prescott Field between the hours of 5:00 – 7:30 pm and the cost is $40 (cash only) per camper… If you click on the following you will find more information as to what you should bring and a form that needs to be completed and signed by the parents and brought to the camp when it starts: Raider Baseball Camp July 2017 … Raider Baseball wants to provide our youth baseball players with the proper instructions on how to become a successful baseball player, and also an idea of what it takes to be RAIDER!

  • Angels 9 – Braves 3Last night out in Anaheim, the Braves scored first on a 2-run homer by Matt Kemp in the third inning but the lead did not last long as the Angels put 9 runs on the board and then went on to take a 9-3 win over the Braves… The Braves third run came in the seventh inning on a solo shot by catcher Tyler Flowers… The Braves and the Angels finish their series tonight.
  • Drive… The Greenville Drive were able to get a doubleheader in with the Rome Braves yesterday at Flor Field… Game 1: Braves 10 – Drive 7… In the first game the two teams fought to an 7-7 tie at the end of 8 innings but the Braves broke that tie putting 3 runs on the board in the top of the 9th inning then holding the Drive scoreless in the bottom of the inning to take a 10-7 win… The Drive led 7-0 going into the 7th inning before letting the Braves come back to beat them… Game 2: Drive 5 – Braves 2… In the second game of the doubleheader, the Drive bounced back to take a 5-2 win… The Drive got on the board first in the third inning and never trailed as they outhit the Braves 5-2 in the seven inning game…. The teams will finish their current series tonight with a 7:05 game at Flour Field.

  • Laurens Adult Basketball League… The Laurens Adult Basketball League (LABL) will kick off its inaugural season in early June… The LABL is open to teams consisting of players ages 16 and up… Teams must submit a roster with a maximum of 10 players before their first game. All players must have matching jerseys with visible numbers… Games will be played at The Ridge at Laurens on Monday’s and Wednesday’s from early June to early July. Game times will be 6pm, 7pm and 8pm. The top 4 teams will advance to the semifinals on Thursday, July 6 with the championship game being played on Monday, July 10… Registration is open now and will continue until Friday, May 26 at The Ridge at Laurens… The cost to register is $100 per team… Each team will also be responsible for paying a $30 referee fee at each game… Anyone interested in fielding a team is invited to attend an informational meeting on Wednesday, June 7 at 6pm at The Ridge at Laurens…  For more information, contact Jason Pridgen at laurensprd@yahoo.com or 864-681-7275.
  • MLB All-Star Game Ballot… The MLB All-Star Game is scheduled to be played in Miami on July 11th… If you would like to vote for your favorite player(s) you may do so by clicking here which will take you to the MLB website’s page where the ballot is located.
  • CHS Athletic Booster Golf Tournament… Athletic Director Nickie Templeton and Booster Club President Buddy Bridges have released information about the 2107 CHS Booster Club Golf Tournament… This year, the tournament will be held at Musgrove Mill, on July 27…  Registration begins at 8:30…  For more information: CHS Golf Tourney Brochure 2017… This is a major fundraiser for our Red Devil student-athletes, and it is also a lot of fun… GO BIG RED!
