Local Notes: 

Laurens County Speedway Results From Last Saturday Night’s Main Events… (First, second & third)

  • Monster Minis / Stock 4… Phillip Wilson, Dusty Eaves & Larry Teal… Wilson and eaves both started on the front row but Wilson took the lead at the start and never surrendered it in a caution free race.
  • Thunder Bombers… Dan Lawson, Dylan Chappell & Casey Lawson… This was Lawson’s second win in as many weeks… At one point in the race he was at the back of the pack but fought his way back to the lead to win by just over half a second.
  • Limited… Billy Ruston, Frank Coates & Terry Bullard… Rushton took the lead at the start and lead wire to wire as he had the dominant car winning by more than 3 seconds in front of Coates.
  • 604 Crates… Dylan Brown, Larry Timms & Dale Timms… Brown and Larry Timms both started on the front row with Brown in the #1 spot which he took advantage of at the start grabbing the lead at the start and holding on for the win.
  • 602 Crates… Jeff Robinson, Chris Patterson & Mart Patterson… Robinson picked up his second straight win but it was not easy as caution flags kept the racers close but in the end he did hold off both the Patterson boys.
  • FWD… Travis Jamieson, Joel Cabe & Mason Mack… It took them 4 start before they could get this race going but each time Jamieson took the lead and finally wound up winning the race by over 2 second.
  • Sprints… Greg Mayer, Banjo Duke & ???… The traveling Sprint series returned to LCS last Saturday night and Greg Mayer took the win though he almost lost it as he got loose at the end but still managed to hold on for the win.

Laurens Academy

  • Todd Kirk to Remain as Head Football Coach… In a brief announcement yesterday from Laurens Academy, Coach Todd Kirk will indeed be the Head Coach of the Crusader football team this next season.

  • Angels 2 – Braves 1In the final game of their 3-game series out in Anaheim, the Angels and the Braves locked up in a pitcher’s duel where both teams managed just 6 hits each but the Angels had 1 more run than the Braves as they took a 2-1 win over the Braves… The Braves got on the board first as Matt Kemp had a homer in the 2nd inning and the Angels tied it with a run in the 7th inning…. They then broke the tie and scored the winning run in the 8th inning on a solo homer by Eric Young Jr…. The win gave the Angels the series win 2 games to 1… The Braves have tonight off as they travel to Cincinnati to start a 3-game series with the reds tomorrow night.


  • Drive 7 – Braves 1…. The Greenville Drive finished their 4-game series with the Rome Braves last night up at Flour Field on a high note as they took a 7-1 win… The Braves got on the board first with scoring their only run in the second inning but the Drive came back scoring 3 runs in both sixth and seventh innings and a single run in the eighth to take the win… The win gave the Drive a split of the 4-game series and they will continue their home stand tonight as they host the Charleston RiverDogs in a 4-game series with the first pitch tonight at 7:05 pm.

  • Laurens Adult Basketball League… The Laurens Adult Basketball League (LABL) will kick off its inaugural season in early June… The LABL is open to teams consisting of players ages 16 and up… Teams must submit a roster with a maximum of 10 players before their first game. All players must have matching jerseys with visible numbers… Games will be played at The Ridge at Laurens on Monday’s and Wednesday’s from early June to early July. Game times will be 6pm, 7pm and 8pm. The top 4 teams will advance to the semifinals on Thursday, July 6 with the championship game being played on Monday, July 10… Registration is open now and will continue until Friday, May 26 at The Ridge at Laurens… The cost to register is $100 per team… Each team will also be responsible for paying a $30 referee fee at each game… Anyone interested in fielding a team is invited to attend an informational meeting on Wednesday, June 7 at 6pm at The Ridge at Laurens…  For more information, contact Jason Pridgen at or 864-681-7275.
  • Raider Youth Baseball Camp… Coach Patterson, his staff and both current and former players will be conducting a youth baseball camp July 10-113… The camp is open to all youth in the community between the ages of 7-13…. The basic fundamentals including throwing, catching, hitting, base running, and pitching will be covered… Water and snacks for the campers will be provided with plenty of breaks between periods each day… The camp will be held at Ed Prescott Field between the hours of 5:00 – 7:30 pm and the cost is $40 (cash only) per camper… If you click here you will find more information as to what you should bring and a form that needs to be completed and signed by the parents and brought to the camp when you register that morning… Raider Baseball wants to provide our youth baseball players with the proper instructions on how to become a successful baseball player, and also an idea of what it takes to be RAIDER!
  • MLB All-Star Game Ballot… The MLB All-Star Game is scheduled to be played in Miami on July 11th… If you would like to vote for your favorite player(s) you may do so by clicking here which will take you to the MLB website’s page where the ballot is located.
  • CHS Athletic Booster Golf Tournament… Athletic Director Nickie Templeton and Booster Club President Buddy Bridges have released information about the 2107 CHS Booster Club Golf Tournament… This year, the tournament will be held at Musgrove Mill, on July 27…  Registration begins at 8:30…  For more information click on the following: CHS Golf Tourney Brochure 2017… This is a major fundraiser for our Red Devil student-athletes, and it is also a lot of fun… GO BIG RED!
