Sports Report for Thursday, 6-22-2017

Tonight at The Depot in Clinton the City of Clinton will be sponsoring another edition of its free concert series Town Rhythms… Tonight’s entertainment will be the Carolina Coast Band and they will kickoff their first set at 7:00 pm… Meanwhile the City of Laurens Parks and Recreation Department will be hosting round three of Laurens Sings at the Laurens Amphitheater at starting at 6:30 pm… The top 13 finalist will perform and as usual you and the judges will pick the favorites after the completion is over… For more information on Laurens Sings, click here… So go ahead and load your lawn chairs in the car this morning so you will be ready to head out to one of these two events this evening.

  • Clinton Cross Country Team Collecting Food Today as a Community service Project… CHS Cross Country Coach Lee Atkinson and his teams will be collecting can goods for the Open Door Ministry in Clinton today at CHS between the hours of 5:30 and 7:00 pm tonight… This is community service projects that that the teams have taken on and they would like the communities help… If you can help out please bring your can goods to the CHS student parking lot between those hours…. Laurens Little League All-Stars

  • Laurens Majors 19 – Greenwood Abbeville 1…. Last night down at the Laurens City Park the Laurens Majors All-Star team rolled to a 19-1 win over a team composed of all-stars from Greenwood and Abbeville… I don’t have many details but I understand they took a quick lead and never looked back… They are scheduled to play Easley tonight in a winners bracket game at 6:30 and if you get a chance go out and cheer the team on.

  • LSU 7 Florida State 4… Last night the LSU Tigers sent the Florida State Seminoles home by taking a 7-4 win in an elimination game… The Tigers outhit the Seminoles 10-7 and simply got the clutch hits at the right time… LSU now advances to take on Oregon State at 3:00 pm tomorrow and must defeat the Beavers twice if they want to make it into the CWS finals… That will be a tall order as the Beavers have only lost 4 times this season and have a 56-4 record and have already defeated LSY 13-1 in an earlier game at the CWS.
  • Tonight… Louisville and TCU will go at it at 8:00 pm tonight out in Omaha with the loser going home and the winner advancing to take on Florida tomorrow at 8:00 pm and the winner would have to defeat Florida twice to make it into the CWS finals starting next Monday.

  • Braves 5 – Giants 3 (11)… The Braves used the long ball very effectively in their 5-3 win over the Giants last night down in Atlanta… The Giants tied the game 3-3 with a solo homer in the top of the 9th inning and it stayed that way until the bottom of the 11th inning when Matt Kemp ended the game with a walk-off two-run homer to give the Braves the win… First baseman Matt Adams had a two-run homer in the 4th inning and catcher Tyler Flowers had a solo shot in the 7th inning to account for the Braves other three runs. .. The teams finish their 4-game series tonight at Sun Trust park.
  • Drive… The Greenville Drive were off last night as they finished up the SAL All-Star break… The Drive will start the second half of their season tonight as they host the Charleston RiverDogs in the first game of a 4-game series at Flour Field… By the way in case you did not note this, the Drive finished the first half of their season with a 41-28 record which meant they finished in first half in the SAL Southern Division 0.5 games ahead of the Columbia Fireflies.

  • Raider Softball Clinics… Coach Haley Register Satterfield the new head coach of the of the Laurens Raider varsity softball team will be holding FREE softball clinics at LDHS this summer… The clinics are open to all young ladies between the ages of 8 and 13 who are interested in learning to play softball… The clinics will be on Tuesday and Thursday evenings between the hours of 7:00 – 8:15 pm… The clinics will start on Tuesday, June 20th… Each young lady needs to bring a glove, bat, tennis shoes and cleats to practice… If you have any questions about this, contact coach Satterfield at hmregister@laurens55.org.
  • Raider Youth Baseball Camp… Coach Patterson, his staff and both current and former players will be conducting a youth baseball camp July 10-13… The camp is open to all youth in the community between the ages of 7-13…. The basic fundamentals including throwing, catching, hitting, base running, and pitching will be covered… Water and snacks for the campers will be provided with plenty of breaks between periods each day… The camp will be held at Ed Prescott Field between the hours of 5:00 – 7:30 pm and the cost is $40 (cash only) per camper… If you click here you will find more information as to what you should bring and a form that needs to be completed and signed by the parents and brought to the camp when you register that morning… Raider Baseball wants to provide our youth baseball players with the proper instructions on how to become a successful baseball player, and also an idea of what it takes to be RAIDER!
  • MLB All-Star Game Ballot… The MLB All-Star Game is scheduled to be played in Miami on July 11th… If you would like to vote for your favorite player(s) you may do so by clicking here which will take you to the MLB website’s page where the ballot is located.
  • Laurens Parks & Recreation Youth Football Camp….The Laurens Parks and Recreation Dept. is having a youth football camp on July 22nd for youth ages 7-12… The camp is designed to teach the proper fundamentals of football and to give the attendees experience and knowledge of what it takes to make it to the NFS… Autwan Edwards, Rahim Abdullah and Airese Currie all of whom are NFL draftees will be coaching the camp… Ramon Robinson an elite QB coach in the southeast will also be one of the coaches… The cost of the camp is $65 and those who register will automatically be registered for the Parks and Recreation youth tackle football program this fall….You do noy have to be a resident of Laurens to attend and you do not have to play in the youth football program this fall to attend…If you have questions or want more details contact the City of Laurens Parks and Recreation Department at       681-7275 or email them at laurensprd@yahoo.com
  • CHS Athletic Booster Golf Tournament… Athletic Director Nickie Templeton and Booster Club President Buddy Bridges have released information about the 2107 CHS Booster Club Golf Tournament… This year, the tournament will be held at Musgrove Mill, on July 27…  Registration begins at 8:30…  For more information: CHS Golf Tourney Brochure 2017… This is a major fundraiser for our Red Devil student-athletes, and it is also a lot of fun… GO BIG RED!

2017 PC Sports Camps… PC has different sports camps throughout the summer… Below are the next couple of camps that I know of being held at PC.

  • PC Women’s Soccer Camp… June 22-24… Ages 10-14… PC Girls Soccer Camp is a comprehensive soccer training experience… Our highly trained coaches address each campers needs in a challenging but enjoyable environment…  Our hope is that each camper leaves camp feeling that they learned, improved, and had a wonderful time… For more information on how to register and what to bring, click here.
  • PC 2017 Elite Residential Boys Soccer Camp…       July 13 – 16… Boys 11-18The Presbyterian College Elite Residential Camp is intended to put college-bound elite high school soccer player in the best possible environment in this intense four-day camp. During the day, camper will be in high-level technical and tactical training session conducted by the Presbyterian College staff or other high level college coaches from the area. In the evening players will be coached and evaluated in 11 vs.11 match play….   • Elite Football Camp…July 15th, 10:00– 3:00 pm… The Coach Tommy Spangler Elite Football Camp is designed for high school juniors and seniors to receive individual instruction from the Presbyterian College coaching staff…  Campers will receive instruction in Fundamentals, Skills, and Techniques as well as one-on-one drills…  Our camps are designed to make each participant a better football player while creating a fun and competitive environment….
