Local Notes:

Clinton 11-12 All-Stars have been participating in the District 3 Tournament at the Clinton YMCA

  • Friday: Clinton 19 – Saluda 2…. The All-Stars put up 7 runs in the 1st inning and added 12 in the 3rd to end the game.  Luke White pitched the first 2 innings giving up 2 earned runs.  Justin Copeland came on to pitch a scoreless 3rd… The All-Stars were led offensively by RT Corley who went 1-3 with a grand slam, Wilson Wages 1-2 with a 3 run HR, and Wil Stewart 2-2, double, and 3 RBIs… Head Coach Matt Stewart commented after the game: “Great way to open our district tournament, especially on our home field.  Very proud of these guys… Hopefully we can keep this momentum going into Sunday… 6 good teams in this tournament, we’ll have to play really well to advance…  Our goal stays the same, win 1 game and that’s Sunday at 4pm.”..Clinton’s 11-12 All-Stars r team members are RT Corley, Austin Copeland, Justin Copeland, Wilson Wages, Landen Vo, Zane McClendon, Wil Stewart, Luke White, Zach Fortman, Caleb Taylor, Bryce Young, and Kason Copeland.  Head Coach Matt Stewart, assisted by Brian Fortman, and Josh McClendon.
  • Sunday: Clinton 9 – Edgefield 4… Clinton’s 11-12 All-Stars rallied back from a 4-0 1st inning deficit to beat Edgefield County 9-4 Sunday in the District 3 tournament at the Clinton YMCA… With one out and the bases loaded Edgefield’s Greg Bryant sent the first pitch he saw over the left field fence for a grand slam putting Edgefield up 4-0 in the top half of the first inning…  The All-Stars quickly responded in their half scoring 4 runs of their own, highlighted by an Austin Copeland homerun… The All-Stars would tack on 1 run each in the 3rd and 4th innings as well as 3 in the 5th to round out the scoring… Wil Stewart pitched a complete game for Clinton allowing 3 earned runs off 5 hits while striking out 5… After giving up 4 runs in the 1st inning, 3 earned, Stewart held Edgefield scoreless through the next 5 innings while only facing 2 over the minimum during that span… Offensively Clinton was led by Austin Copeland 2-3 ,2 HRs, 3 RBIs, Wilson Wages 2-3, HR, 2 RBIs, and Landen Vo 2-3, 2 RBIs… “Wow!!  What a great game!  Hats off to Edgefield County, they are a very good baseball team.  We could have folded our tents there so to speak during that 1st inning when they put up 4 on us in a hurry,” Head Coach Matt Stewart commented afterward.  “Really proud of our kids for battling back, not getting down , and sticking to what we constantly tell them; which is, “do what you’ve been coached to do.”  To often kids lose focus when things start to go bad and big innings can quickly get much worse…  We as coaches always tell them do what you’ve been coached to do in practice and the score will take care of itself.  What a great pitching performance by Wil Stewart, he was lights out after that 1st inning, didn’t get rattled after giving up that grand slam and completely shut them down for the next 5 innings.  Just goes to show what kind of competitor he is…  Austin Copeland and Wilson Wages had clutch performances to lead us offensively, their special players the moment is never too big for them.”
