  • Florida 6 – LSU 1The Florida Gators won the Division I College World series last night by taking a 6-1 win over the LSU Tigers out in Omaha giving them their second straight win in the best of three finals… The Gators scored a run in the bottom of the first inning and another in the second to go up 2-0… The Tigers made it 2-1 scoring their only run in the top of the seventh inning… The Tigers threatened to score more in the seventh and eighth inning but good defense and relief pitching by the gators helped them hang on to their one-run lead going into the bottom of the eighth inning… In the eighth, the Gators exploded scoring 4 runs to and then slammed the door in the top of the ninth to bring home their first championship in baseball in their eleventh try in Omaha…. Florida pitcher Alex Faedo was named CWS Most Outstanding Player… The CWS All-Tournament team was also announced afterwards and the Gators had three players on it one of whom was Faedo… If you want to see who else made the team, click here.

  • Braves 3 – Padres 0 … The Braves started a 3-game series with the Padres last night out in san Diego and they started it on a positive note as they took a 3-0 win… The Braves rookie pitcher Sean Newcomb went six-plus scoreless innings and the Braves put two runs on the board in the top of the 4th innings on a two run double by third baseman Johan Camargo which would prove to be all the runs the Braves would need though they did add another in the top of the 9th.
  • Tourist 5 – Drive 3… The Greenville Drive and the Ashville Tourist hooked up in game 2 of their 4-game series in Ashville last night and the Drive actually outhit the Tourist 12-10 but that is not hat counts in the record book as it is runs they go by and the Tourist scored 5 to the Drive’s 3 to hand the Drive 5th loss in 6 games since the second half of the season started… The Drive led 3-2 going into the bottom of the 7th inning when the Tourist put 3 runs on the board to take the lead… The Drive had the bases loaded with one out in top of the 9th inning but just could not get the clutch hit to bring in the runs.
