PC’s Deal Signs with the Braves

  • Hayden Deal did not here his name called during the recent MLB draft but that does not mean his dream to play professional baseball is over because last Friday he signed a free contract with the Atlanta Braves… Deal graduated from PC this past May and is a 6-foot-four right-handed pitcher… He started 13 games for the Blue Hose this past season and finished with a 4-4 record… For more information about this story, comments from Coach Nelson Pollock and about Deal, click here.

  • Kiah Young signs With Southern Wesleyan… Yesterday morning at CHS, recent Clinton High School graduate Kiah Young signed a letter of intent to continue his education and basketball career at Southern Wesleyan College… Before he signed AD Nickie Templeton pointed out several things about Kiah to those assembled… She pointed out the hard work Kiah had but into not only the his basketball game during his high school career but also the discipline he displayed to taking care of the academic side of the equation… Without that, he would not have been able to sign yesterday… Below is a short video interview done with Kiah after the signing and a few photos at its end…Congratulations and Good Luck to Kiah!  Go Big Red!

 

Laurens Academy

  • Taylor Campbell Announces She Intends to Play for Newberry College… Recently Taylor Campbell a rising senior at Laurens Academy paid a visit to Newberry College and said afterwards Laurens Academy twitted that she had decided to continue her education and basketball career at Newberry… Campbell is a point guard on the Crusader basketball team and last year the Crusader made it all the way to the SCISA Class A finals before falling in the title game… As I get more information on this I will keep you updated.

 

Laurens County Speedway

  • Ronnie Brookshire Memorial race Tomorrow Night… If you have not been out to the LCS lately tomorrow night would be a very good time to go back as they are having some special racing… The ULTIMATE Super Late Model Series South East Region Tour will return to the LCS for first time since 2011… The ULTIMATE SE race will be run in memory of Ronnie Brookshire, who passed away on March 21, 2014.  Brookshire is a legendary driver at Laurens County Speedway and was a multi-time Late Model Champion at the track….   • Padres 6 – Braves 0… The Braves finished their 3-game series with the padres in San Diego last night and as you may recall the Braves took the first 3-0 on Tuesday and dropped Wednesday’s game 7-4 so last night’s game was the rubber game of the series… Well the Braves only managed 4 hits last night and lost 6-0 giving the Padres the series win… The Padres only had 9 hits themselves but two of them were multi-run homers…. The Braves now move up the coast to Oakland for a weekend series with the Athletics.
  • Drive 9 – Tourist 6 (12)… The Greenville Drive wrapped up their 4-game series with the Ashville Tourist up in Ashville last night and they did avoid being swept by the Tourist as they took a 9-6 win but it took them 12 innings to do so… the score was tied 5-5 at the end of 9 innings and then both team scored a single run in the 11th inning to make it 6-6… With two out in the top of the 12th inning and two on base, the Tourist committed a throwing error that allowed to Drive runs to score and then the next batter doubled driving in another run which put the Drive up 9-6… The Tourist had a leadoff single in the bottom of the inning and then the next batter struck out… The Tourist then hit into a double play ending the game… The Drive return home tonight to start a short 4-game home stand with the Lexington Legends being their opponent for all 4 games.

  • Raider Softball Clinics… Coach Haley Register Satterfield the new head coach of the of the Laurens Raider varsity softball team will be holding FREE softball clinics at LDHS this summer… The clinics are open to all young ladies between the ages of 8 and 13 who are interested in learning to play softball and depending on participation they may lead to a travel team being formed this summer… The clinics will be on Tuesday and Thursday evenings between the hours of 7:00 – 8:15 pm… The clinics will end July 31st and there will not be any clinics during the July 4th week.… Each young lady needs to bring a glove, bat, tennis shoes and cleats to practice… If you have any questions about this, contact coach Satterfield at hmregister@laurens55.org.
  • Raider Youth Baseball Camp… Coach Patterson, his staff and both current and former players will be conducting a youth baseball camp July 10-13… The camp is open to all youth in the community between the ages of 7-13…. The basic fundamentals including throwing, catching, hitting, base running, and pitching will be covered… Water and snacks for the campers will be provided with plenty of breaks between periods each day… The camp will be held at Ed Prescott Field between the hours of 5:00 – 7:30 pm and the cost is $40 (cash only) per camper… If you click here you will find more information as to what you should bring and a form that needs to be completed and signed by the parents and brought to the camp when you register that morning… Raider Baseball wants to provide our youth baseball players with the proper instructions on how to become a successful baseball player, and also an idea of what it takes to be RAIDER!
  • Laurens Parks & Recreation Youth Football Camp….The Laurens Parks and Recreation Dept. is having a youth football camp on July 22nd for youth ages 7-12… The camp is designed to teach the proper fundamentals of football and to give the attendees experience and knowledge of what it takes to make it to the NFS… Autwan Edwards, Rahim Abdullah and Airese Currie all of whom are NFL draftees will be coaching the camp… Ramon Robinson an elite QB coach in the southeast will also be one of the coaches… The cost of the camp is $65 and those who register will automatically be registered for the Parks and Recreation youth tackle football program this fall….You do noy have to be a resident of Laurens to attend and you do not have to play in the youth football program this fall to attend…If you have questions or want more details contact the City of Laurens Parks and Recreation Department at       681-7275 or email them at laurensprd@yahoo.com
  • CHS Athletic Booster Golf Tournament… Athletic Director Nickie Templeton and Booster Club President Buddy Bridges have released information about the 2107 CHS Booster Club Golf Tournament… This year, the tournament will be held at Musgrove Mill, on July 27…  Registration begins at 8:30…  For more information: CHS Golf Tourney Brochure 2017… This is a major fundraiser for our Red Devil student-athletes, and it is also a lot of fun… GO BIG RED!

  • Laurens YMCA: The next camp at the Laurens YMCA is a Pee-Wee camp for youth ages 3-6 that is to be held July 11-13… The campers will be introduced to T-ball, flag football, soccer, gaga ball & disc golf… Click here for more information.

2017 PC Sports Camps… PC has different sports camps throughout the summer… Below are the next couple of camps that I know of being held at PC.

  • PC 2017 Elite Residential Boys Soccer Camp…       July 13 – 16… Boys 11-18The Presbyterian College Elite Residential Camp is intended to put college-bound elite high school soccer player in the best possible environment in this intense four-day camp. During the day, camper will be in high-level technical and tactical training session conducted by the Presbyterian College staff or other high level college coaches from the area. In the evening players will be coached and evaluated in 11 vs.11 match play…. It is open to boys ages 11-18 and the cost is $450.00 (more or less) for each camper… For more information on how to register and what to bring, click here.
  • Elite Football Camp…July 15th, 10:00– 3:00 pm… The Coach Tommy Spangler Elite Football Camp is designed for high school juniors and seniors to receive individual instruction from the Presbyterian College coaching staff…  Campers will receive instruction in Fundamentals, Skills, and Techniques as well as one-on-one drills…  Our camps are designed to make each participant a better football player while creating a fun and competitive environment….
