Sports Report for Wednesday, 7-5-2017

Local Notes:

 Laurens County Speedway… The LCS suffered its third rainout of the season last Saturday night as they were unable to complete any of the main events before the rains first caused delays and then the eventual cancelation of the main events… They were able to complete only the heat raced in the Thunder Bombers, 602 Crates and the Monster Minis… One of the races was scheduled to be the Ronnie Brookshire Memorial Race… That race has been rescheduled for Friday, August 25th the same night high school football kicks off for the local high schools… Since they are racing on Friday night, the scheduled races for Saturday August 26th will not be held.

 Countdown to Kickoff… The numbers of days left to the first football games are as follows;

  • Clinton at Laurens (8-25-17) : 51
  • Laurens Academy at Holly Hill (8-25-17): 51
  • PC at Wake Forest (Thursday, 8-31-17): 56

Pro Sports    For more information on any of the following games, click on their score.

  • Astros 16 – Braves 4… The Braves returned home last night in time for the Fourth of July to face the Houston Astros and there were some fireworks after and during the game… The two teams combined for 27 hits (three of which were homers and 20 runs… The only problem for Braves fans were that 19 of the hits including all three homers and 16 of the runs were put on the board by the Astros… The Astros scored first and often as they held a 12-0 going into the bottom of the 7th inning before the Braves finally got on the board.
  • Freeman Back in Braves… The Brave fans did get one piece of good news last night as Freddie Freeman came off the DL list and started the game last night at third base…The Braves need his bat in the lineup and he did manage to go 1-4 in the game after a very short rehab stint at one of the Braves farm team… As you may recall, the Braves picked up Matt Adams in a trade after Freeman fractured his left wrist several weeks ago and Adams is having one of his better seasons at first base so the Braves are going to try Freeman out at third to keep both of the players in the lineup.
  • Drive 2 – Braves 0…. The news is better for Greenville Drive fans as they took a 2-0 win over the Rome Braves down in Rome last night scoring a single run in the first and a single run in the ninth… The two teams had only 9 hits and two Drive pitchers held the Baby Braves to just 2 hits…. The Drive’s center fielder Tyler Hill and catcher Roldani Baldwin each had 2 hits to lead the Drive… game two of the 3-game series in Rome is scheduled to start at 7:00 pm tonight in Rome.
