Local Notes:

Laurens 10-11 All-Stars go 1-1 Over the Weekend…. The Laurens Little League 10-11 All-Star Team started their participation in the state tournament up in Taylors… I believe I have the correct scores on their 2 games so far and I will try to get more details on the games by tomorrow

  • Today: Laurens vs. Greenville at 6:00 pm with winner to face Northwood on Tuesday at 6 pm.

Braves… The Braves completed their 4-game series with the Washington Nationals up in the nation’s capital over the weekend… As you may recall they won the first game last Thursday night by a score of 5-2.

  • Friday: Nationals 5 – Braves 4 (10)… The Braves bullpen let them down Friday night as the Braves carried a 4-1 lead into the bottom of the 9th where the Nationals scored 3 runs to tie the game and then gave up 3 singles in the bottom of the 10th inning as the Nationals took a 5-4 win… Freddie Freeman had a solo homer in the 7th inning which gave him a team high 15 on the season even after missing over 40 games due to a fractured wrist.
  • Saturday: Braves 13 – Nationals 0… The Braves rebounded Saturday as their bats pounded out 15 hits and 13 runs in a 13-0 win over the division leading Nationals… The Braves pitcher Julio Teheran pitched 7 strong innings giving up just 4 hits while striking out 4 and walking just 2 but he also helped himself by going 2 for 2 with 3 RBIs…. Nick Markakis had a solo homer for the Braves and Matt Adams had a 3-run homer.
  • Sunday: Nationals 10 – Braves 5… Yesterday the Nationals took a 10-5 win which means the Braves and the Nationals split the series 2 games each… The Nationals had a 3-0 lead at the end of the 1st inning and the Braves tied it in the 3rd inning on a 3-run homer by Freddie Freeman (16)… Braves second baseman Johna Camargo picked up his first career homer in “The Big Show” a solo shot in the 6th inning… However these proved not to be enough as the Nationals outhit the Braves 12-7 to take the win… The Braves now enter a 4-day break for the All-Star Game on Tuesday.

Drive… The Greenville Drive started a 4-game series with the Lexington Legends up in Lexington last Friday.

  • Friday: Legends 5 – Drive 2… In the first game on Friday, the Legends held the Drive to just 1 hit while they 9 as they took a 5-2 win over the Drive… The Drive’s only hit was a 2 out 2-run homer by first baseman Tucker Tubbs in the 4th inning.
  • Saturday: Drive 6 – Legends 0… On Saturday the Drive’s bats came back to life as they pounded out 12 hits to the Legends 3 as the Drive rebounded to take a 6-0 win… The Drive’s centerfielder Lorenzo Cedrola went 3-5 to lead the Drive at the plate and right fielder Granger Studdard picked up his frst homer of the season a sol shot in the 6th inning.
  • Sunday: Drive 6 – Legends 5… In game 3 of the series yesterday Lexington jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead but the Drive took a 4-3 by scoring 4 runs in the top of the 3rd inning only t have the Legends tie it in the bottom of the same inning… The Drive were able to get 2 more runs in the 6th inning and then held on as the Legends got a single run in the bottom of the 9th and escape with a 6-5 win to insure at least a split of the 4-game series that ends tonight… The Drive’s Roldani Baldwin had a 2-run homer in the 3rd inning when the Drive put 4 runs on the board.

This & That:

  • Raider Softball Clinics… Coach Haley Register Satterfield the new head coach of the of the Laurens Raider varsity softball team will be holding FREE softball clinics at LDHS this summer… The clinics are open to all young ladies between the ages of 8 and 13 who are interested in learning to play softball and depending on participation they may lead to a travel team being formed this summer… The clinics will be on Tuesday and Thursday evenings between the hours of 7:00 – 8:15 pm… The clinics will end July 31st and there will not be any clinics during the July 4th week.… Each young lady needs to bring a glove, bat, tennis shoes and cleats to practice… If you have any questions about this, contact coach Satterfield at…. Note: There will be no clinics the week of July 4th.
  • Raider Youth Baseball Camp… Coach Patterson, his staff and both current and former players will be conducting a youth baseball camp July 10-13… The camp is open to all youth in the community between the ages of 7-13…. The basic fundamentals including throwing, catching, hitting, base running, and pitching will be covered… Water and snacks for the campers will be provided with plenty of breaks between periods each day… The camp will be held at Ed Prescott Field between the hours of 5:00 – 7:30 pm and the cost is $40 (cash only) per camper…       If you click here you will find more information as to what you should bring and a form that needs to be completed and signed by the parents and brought to the camp when you register that morning… Raider Baseball wants to provide our youth baseball players with the proper instructions on how to become a successful baseball player, and also an idea of what it takes to be RAIDER!
  • CHS Athletic Booster Golf Tournament… Athletic Director Nickie Templeton and Booster Club President Buddy Bridges have released information about the 2107 CHS Booster Club Golf Tournament… This year, the tournament will be held at Musgrove Mill, on July 27…  Registration begins at 8:30…  For more information: CHS Golf Tourney Brochure 2017… This is a major fundraiser for our Red Devil student-athletes, and it is also a lot of fun… GO BIG RED!

  • Clinton YMCA: The next camp at the Clinton YMCA is a basketball camp July 17-20 for boys and girls ages 8-12 that you must sign up for by July 14th … Click here for more information.
  • Laurens YMCA: The next camp at the Laurens YMCA is a Pee-Wee camp for youth ages 3-6 that is to be held July 11-13… The campers will be introduced to T-ball, flag football, soccer, gaga ball & disc golf… Click here for more information.
  • Free Swimming Lessons @ Laurens YMCA… The Laurens Family YMCA along with Kennedy Mortuary are sponsoring FREE swimming lessons for parents and children who are both looking to learn how to swim together… There are two sessions with one beginning on July 10th and the other Juy 17th… They will run Monday thru Thursday each week and will be 30 minutes each… There are different time periods based on the age of the child (3-6, 7-10a and 11-15)….   • Youth Volleyball Camps… There will be two different camps each for different age groups… The camps will have LDHS coaches and players as instructors… The cost is $60 for each camp and they will be held at The Ridge from 9:00 am – noon… For youth 8-10 the camp will be July 10-12…. For youth ages 11-14 the camo will be July 17-19
  • Laurens Parks & Recreation Youth Football Camp….The Laurens Parks and Recreation Dept. is having a youth football camp on July 22nd for youth ages 7-12… The camp is designed to teach the proper fundamentals of football and to give the attendees experience and knowledge of what it takes to make it to the NFS… Autwan Edwards, Rahim Abdullah and Airese Currie all of whom are NFL draftees will be coaching the camp… Ramon Robinson an elite QB coach in the southeast will also be one of the coaches… The cost of the camp is $65 and those who register will automatically be registered for the Parks and Recreation youth tackle football program this fall….You do noy have to be a resident of Laurens to attend and you do not have to play in the youth football program this fall to attend.
  • Basketball Camp… This camp will be July 31 – August 2 and is open to youth ages 9-13… The cost of this camp will be $40 and will be held at The Ridge from 9:00 am – noon each day.



2017 PC Sports Camps… PC has different sports camps throughout the summer… Below are the next couple of camps that I know of being held at PC.

  • PC 2017 Elite Residential Boys Soccer Camp…       July 13 – 16… Boys 11-18The Presbyterian College Elite Residential Camp is intended to put college-bound elite high school soccer player in the best possible environment in this intense four-day camp. During the day, camper will be in high-level technical and tactical training session conducted by the Presbyterian College staff or other high level college coaches from the area. In the evening players will be coached and evaluated in 11 vs.11 match play…. It is open to boys ages 11-18 and the cost is $450.00 (more or less) for each camper… For more information on how to register and what to bring, click here.
  • Elite Football Camp…July 15th, 10:00– 3:00 pm… The Coach Tommy Spangler Elite Football Camp is designed for high school juniors and seniors to receive individual instruction from the Presbyterian College coaching staff…  Campers will receive instruction in Fundamentals, Skills, and Techniques as well as one-on-one drills…  Our camps are designed to make each participant a better football player while creating a fun and competitive environment….
