CHS

  • CHS Has New Baseball Coach… Yesterday the following WLBG and other media received the following press release… “Clinton High School Athletics is proud to announce that Tom Fortman will take over as head baseball coach for the Red Devils starting the 2017-2018 school year.   Coach Fortman has been in Baltimore, Maryland coaching at Digital Harbor High School and teaching math.  He brings to CHS a wealth of baseball knowledge, proven success, and impeccable teaching credentials.  Coach Fortman landed two Baltimore City Championships and most recently accumulated a 32-5 record as Varsity Head Coach at Digital Harbor High School.  We look forward to having Coach Fortman on staff and he and his family in our community and school.  Go Big Red.” Other media outlets are reporting that Coach McCarthy stepped down back in May and will remain at CHS as n assistant principal and assistant football coach. 

Laurens All-Stars …

  • Last night the Laurens LL 10-11 All-Star team defeated a team from Greenville 21-6… The team scored 10 runs in the second inning and another 10 in the 5th inning in route to the win… With the win, the team advances to play the host Northwood team who is undefeated in a 6 pm game tonight… They must beat Northwood tonight to force a winner take-all game for the state championship tomorrow night…. Good Luck to the team!
  • Laurens 9-10 All-Stars FallThe news is not as good for the Laurens LL 9-10 Minors All-Star Team as they fell last night to Wren 19-10 in the state tournament down in Summerville… Now I do not have any other details on this game but the bracket shows they are now eliminated from cometion and finished with a 2-2 record.

  • Braves… The Braves were off last night as they start their 4-game break for the 88th MLB All-Star Game tonight that is being held tonight down in Miami… The Braves will have the mandatory 1 player on the National League All-Star Team and he is their centerfielder Ender Inciarte… The left handed Inciarte game to the Braves from the Diamondbacks in a trade during the 2015 Baseball Winter Meetings… He has always been know for his defense in centerfield but this year he come into the all-star break hitting .302 with 7 homers and 36 RBIs… Tonight’s game can be seen on Fox with coverage staring at 7:30…. By the way the NY Yankees Aaron Judge won the Home Run Derby last night with 23 homeruns and one of them carried 501 feet…, The Yankee rookie leads MLB with 30 homeruns on the season to date.
  • Drive 8 – Legends 7… Last night the Greenville Drive finished their 4-games series with the Lexington Legends up in Kentucky with an 8-7 win which gave them the series win 3 games to 1… Lexington led 4-2 going into the top of the 5th inning where the Drive struck for 5 runs and then held on to take win… The legends made it interesting by scoring 1 run in the 9th inning and having runners on first and second with 2 outs when they picked up the third out on ground ball force out at second… The Drive are off tonight.

  • Raider Softball Clinics… Coach Haley Register Satterfield the new head coach of the of the Laurens Raider varsity softball team will be holding FREE softball clinics at LDHS this summer… The clinics are open to all young ladies between the ages of 8 and 13 who are interested in learning to play softball and depending on participation they may lead to a travel team being formed this summer… The clinics will be on Tuesday and Thursday evenings between the hours of 7:00 – 8:15 pm… The clinics will end July 31st and there will not be any clinics during the July 4th week.… Each young lady needs to bring a glove, bat, tennis shoes and cleats to practice… If you have any questions about this, contact coach Satterfield at hmregister@laurens55.org….
  • CHS Athletic Booster Golf Tournament… Athletic Director Nickie Templeton and Booster Club President Buddy Bridges have released information about the 2107 CHS Booster Club Golf Tournament… This year, the tournament will be held at Musgrove Mill, on July 27…  Registration begins at 8:30…  For more information: CHS Golf Tourney Brochure 2017… This is a major fundraiser for our Red Devil student-athletes, and it is also a lot of fun… GO BIG RED!

  • Clinton YMCA: The next camp at the Clinton YMCA is a basketball camp July 17-20 for boys and girls ages 8-12 that you must sign up for by July 14th … Click here for more information.
  • Laurens YMCA: The next camp at the Laurens YMCA is a Pee-Wee camp for youth ages 3-6 that is to be held July 11-13… The campers will be introduced to T-ball, flag football, soccer, gaga ball & disc golf… Click here for more information.
  • Free Swimming Lessons @ Laurens YMCA… The Laurens Family YMCA along with Kennedy Mortuary are sponsoring FREE swimming lessons for parents and children who are both looking to learn how to swim together… There are two sessions with one beginning on July 10th and the other Juy 17th… They will run Monday thru Thursday each week and will be 30 minutes each… There are different time periods based on the age of the child (3-6, 7-10a and 11-15)….   • Youth Volleyball Camps… There will be two different camps each for different age groups… The camps will have LDHS coaches and players as instructors… The cost is $60 for each camp and they will be held at The Ridge from 9:00 am – noon… For youth 8-10 the camp will be July 10-12…. For youth ages 11-14 the camp will be July 17-19
  • Laurens Parks & Recreation Youth Football Camp….The Laurens Parks and Recreation Dept. is having a youth football camp on July 22nd for youth ages 7-12… The camp is designed to teach the proper fundamentals of football and to give the attendees experience and knowledge of what it takes to make it to the NFS… Autwan Edwards, Rahim Abdullah and Airese Currie all of whom are NFL draftees will be coaching the camp… Ramon Robinson an elite QB coach in the southeast will also be one of the coaches… The cost of the camp is $65 and those who register will automatically be registered for the Parks and Recreation youth tackle football program this fall….You do noy have to be a resident of Laurens to attend and you do not have to play in the youth football program this fall to attend.
  • Basketball Camp… This camp will be July 31 – August 2 and is open to youth ages 9-13… The cost of this camp will be $40 and will eb held at The Ridge from 9:00 am – noon each day.

 

 

2017 PC Sports Camps… PC has different sports camps throughout the summer… Below are the next couple of camps that I know of being held at PC.

  • PC 2017 Elite Residential Boys Soccer Camp…       July 13 – 16… Boys 11-18The Presbyterian College Elite Residential Camp is intended to put college-bound elite high school soccer player in the best possible environment in this intense four-day camp. During the day, camper will be in high-level technical and tactical training session conducted by the Presbyterian College staff or other high level college coaches from the area. In the evening players will be coached and evaluated in 11 vs.11 match play…. It is open to boys ages 11-18 and the cost is $450.00 (more or less) for each camper… For more information on how to register and what to bring, click here.
  • Elite Football Camp…July 15th, 10:00– 3:00 pm… The Coach Tommy Spangler Elite Football Camp is designed for high school juniors and seniors to receive individual instruction from the Presbyterian College coaching staff…  Campers will receive instruction in Fundamentals, Skills, and Techniques as well as one-on-one drills…  Our camps are designed to make each participant a better football player while creating a fun and competitive environment….
