Local Notes:

Laurens Little League 10-11 All-Stars Force Winner Take All Game Tonight

  • Laurens 11 – Northwood 0 (4)The Laurens 10-11 LL All-Star team knew exactly what they had to do last night if they wanted to play for the state championship and that was very simply defeat Northwood last night and force a winner take all for the championship tonight… Well they not only defeated the perennial power Northwood but they did it decisively as they took an 11-0 win to avenge an earlier tournament 8-3 loss to Northwood… Laurens got on the board first scoring two runs in the top of the first on a 2RBI double Harrison Moore… Laurens added another run in the second on a two out RBI single by Owen Pridgen… Laurens broke the game open in the third when they struck for 6 runs to go up 9-0… EJ Grant had a leadoff solo homer and Ben Wright, Jonah Hogge and Harrison Moore all had run producing hits while Owen Pridgen also had a sacrifice fly in the inning to drive in a run… Laurens picked up its last 2 runs in the top of the 4th when Jonah Hogge doubled with two outs to add the two insurance runs… Ben Willis picked up the complete game shutout giving up only 2 hits while striking out 6 and walking just 2… Laurens and Northwood will face off tonight at 6:00 pm and if I looked at the bracket correctly they will be the home team… If you would like to go the physical address for Corey Burns Park where the game will be played is 200 Boling Ct, Taylors, SC 29687 for use in your smart phones or GPS devices. Good Luck to the team!

  • MLB All-Star Game… The Braves were off last night as they held the 88th MLB All-Star Game down in Miami… For the 5th straight year (17 out of last 21) the American League won the game by a score of 2-1 in 10 innings giving the AL home field advantage in this year’s World Series. … Seattle’s Robinson Cano had a leadoff homer in the top of the 10th inning that proved to be the winning run… For that he was selected as the game’s MVP and afterwards given the choice between a new Chevy pickup truck and a Corvette, he chose the Vet… Can’t argue with his choice…
  • Drive… The Greenville Drive were off last night but will return to action tonight as they start a 6-game home stand with the first team into Flour Field being the Kannapolis Intimidators as they start a 3-game series tonight at 7:05 pm… The Drive who went 41-28 in the first half of the season and won the Southern Division of the SAL are only 7-11 since the start of the second half of the season and find themselves tied for last place in the Southern Division with Columbia and just 5 games behind the division leading Charleston RiverDogs with plenty of time left in the season to catch up.
