Local Notes:

Clinton 11-12 DY All-Stars Stay Alive in State Tournament

  • Luke White and Wil Stewart combined for a no hitter to avenge an earlier tournament loss to Greer Tuesday in the Dixie Youth Ozone State Tournament in Hartsville taking an 8-0 win… White went 5 and two thirds innings allowing only 1 base runner who reached on a hit by pitch and was quickly doubled off on a line drive to RT Corley…  Stewart came on to finish the last 1 and a third innings and each had 1 strikeout… Clinton scored 1 in the bottom of the 1st off a single from Austin Copeland and a double from White… The bottom of the 3rd saw the All-stars score 3 more..  Caleb Taylor and Justin Copeland would single.  Stewart followed with a 1 out single to score Taylor…  White would again double to score both Copeland and Stewart putting Clinton up 4-0 after 3 complete innings… In the 4th, two fielder’s choice and a single from Kason Copeland would score 2 more runs for the All-stars… In the bottom of the 5th the All-stars would score their last 2 runs off a Justin Copeland single and an error by Greer making the final score 8-0…”What a pitching performance from Luke, allowing only 1 base runner and throwing only 39 total pitches in 5 and two thirds innings, and Wil stepping in there finishing it out the way he did!  Absolutely great job by those guys… That kind of pitching will keep you in any game.  Guys played hard today and we hit it a little better…  It’s down to the final 4 from the original 12 teams… We’re still in it and live to play again tomorrow (Wednesday). .. Obviously we’re very proud of that!!  Head Coach Matt Stewart commented afterward… Clinton will played Hartsville at 5:30pm Wednesday (yesterday) at Byerly Park in Hartsville… As soon as I get the results I’ll pass them on.
