PC Notes:

Football Practice Starts Today

  • The Blue Hose football team opens their season just 34 days from today which will mark the 105th season of football at PC… PC will open its season on the road on Thursday night August 31st when they travel to Winston–Salem to take on the wake forest Demon Deacons… No in order to get ready for that game PC will start football practice today…. The will be in shorts & helmets today and tomorrow, add shoulder pads on Sunday and Monday and then go to full pads and really start to make things “pop” on Tuesday… As true Blue Hose fans know, Coach Tommy Spangler is back for his second tour of duty as head coach of the Blue Hose… He previously served as head coach from 2001-2006 and had a record of 42-24… Now to go to the PC press release about the start of football practice which also has a link to the PC Media Guide, click here.

High School Football Practice Starts Today

  • Would you believe that it is only 28 days until the local high schools kick off their seasons on Friday, 8-25-17… Clinton will kick their season off at Laurens and Laurens Academy will hit the road to Holly Hill… Now the ware Shoals Hornets do kick things off one week earlier as they travel to Due West to take on the Green Hornets of Dixie HS… Well the high schools also kick off their preseason practice today as both Clinton and Laurens will hit the practice field today and tomorrow at 9 am and go to about noon… It will be shorts and helmets only for them the first couple of days… Now Laurens Academy was able to start practice yesterday but does not expect to have all the players out until Monday… I’m sure all these teams would not mind a little encouragement from the fans as they head toward opening night. 

LCSD 55 Secures Athletic Training Services for the District

  • Yesterday District 55 Athletic Director Ed Murray announced yesterday that the school district had entered into an agreement with Greenville Health System for athletic training services in the entire district… Of course this came about after LDHS lost the services of all three athletic trainers at the school since last school year…. Laurens Little League 9-11 All-Stars in Tournament of State Champions This Weekend

  • I want to take a moment to wish the Laurens LL 9-11 All-Star team good luck as they travel to Greenville, NC this weekend to play in the Tournament of State Champions… As you may recall they won the SC Championship a couple of weeks ago up in Taylors… They will be one of teams from Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Norths Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia… The opening ceremonies are tonight and random pool play begins tomorrow and goes through Monday with the top teams advancing to single elimination play starting next Tuesday… Laurens will play Tennessee tomorrow at 10 am, Florida at 6:15 pm on Sunday and Georgia on Monday at 12:45 pm… To go to the tournament home page click here … From there you can go to several other pages including schedule, live scores, standings, and other information (if you click on the first three it will carry you to those pages.)… Again good luck to the team!

  • Braves… The Braves were off yesterday but return to action tonight as they start a series in Philadelphia with the Phillies…. The Braves enter the series with a 48-52 season record and find themselves in second place in the NL East 13 games behind the division leading Washington Nationals and just half a game ahead of the third place Mets.
  • RiverDogs 5 – Drive 3…. The Greenville Drive started a 4-game series at Flor Field last night wit the Charleston RiverDogs and it started on a sour note as the RiverDogs took a 5-4 win.
  • Panthers Training Camp … The Panthers once again are at Wofford College conducting their very popular preseason training camp… To go to the Panthers website where you can get all your questions as to dates, times, parking directions and what you can bring or not bring, click here…. The Panthers will be on the practice field today, tomorrow and Sunday from 9:25-am – 11:30 am. each day.

  • Raider Softball Clinics… Coach Haley Register Satterfield the new head coach of the of the Laurens Raider varsity softball team will be holding FREE softball clinics at LDHS this summer… The clinics are open to all young ladies between the ages of 8 and 13 who are interested in learning to play softball and depending on participation they may lead to a travel team being formed this summer… The clinics will be on Tuesday and Thursday evenings between the hours of 7:00 – 8:15 pm… The clinics will end July 31st and there will not be any clinics during the July 4th week.… Each young lady needs to bring a glove, bat, tennis shoes and cleats to practice… If you have any questions about this, contact coach Satterfield at hmregister@laurens55.org..
  • Laurens Family YMCA Kids Splash & Dash… Once again this year the Laurens Family YMCA in cooperation with the Laurens County Memorial Hospital / Greenville Health System are having the popular Kids Splash and dash on Saturday August 4th… This is a good way for kids 3-11 to get a taste of multi-sport competition without the pressure of as full triathlon…. There will be 3 different age groupings; 3-5, 6-8 and 9-11… Each group will have different lengths of swimming and running tailored to their age grouping… The event will start at 10 am and end by 11 am after which lunch will be served…. Following that they will have their awards ceremony… The cost is only $15 if you register at the YMCA and family members are invited to root on the competitors… You can register online by clicking here….
  • Clinton YMCA Fall Flag Football and Cheerleading… Registration is now open for flag football and cheerleading at the Clinton Family YMCA… For flag football there will be 3 age groupings 4-6, 7-9 and 10-12…. Cheerleading is open to youth in grades K-6…. For more information including cost, fall-out dates, click here… The last day to register is Friday, August 18th… Of course you can call the Clinton YMCA at 833-1555.
  • Laurens Parks & Recreation Tackle Football & Cheerleading… Registration is now open at the City of Laurens Parks and Recreation offices at The Ridge on Exchange Drive for tackle football & cheerleading… Tackle football is open to ages 7-12 and the cost is $50… Uniforms are included Helmet and shoulder pad rental is available… Cheerleading is open to ages 5-12 and the cost is also $50…. You can register during business hours at The Ridge and if you have questions call them at 681-7275 or email them at LaurensPRD@yahoo.com. … Deadline to register is 7-31-17.
  • Red Devil Season Football Tickets on Sale …. Season football tickets for Red Devil football are now on sale at CHS. .  During the summer dates we will sell season tickets Monday through Thursday from 8:30-1:30 in the athletics office located in the main gym…  When school starts back on August 17th tickets will be sold 8:30-1:30 Monday through Friday…  Please enter through the main entrance of the gym, and Kathy Schumpert’s office is to the left and first office on the left (beside the men’s restroom in the gym lobby).  Kathy will also have membership forms for you to sign up with the CHS Booster Club as well…  Season Tickets will be $45 for one season ticket and one parking pass…  It will be $90 for two season tickets and one parking pass…  If you are a senior pass holder, you may purchase a parking pass for $20…  Parking spaces are limited, so they will be issued on a first come first serve basis… All senior pass holders must come to pick up a new senior pass this year!!!!  Senior passes will be printed each year starting with this up and coming school year…  All seniors may pick up their new senior pass in the athletics office and may come during the hours listed above…  All seniors must be prepared to show an ID to Kathy Schumpert…  In order to receive a senior pass, an individual must be at least 65 years old or older… If you need to make arrangements for an alternate time to pick up season tickets or senior passes, please call Kathy Schumpert at 864-938-1981 or Nickie Templeton at 864-938-1982.

  • Clinton YMCA: No further summer camps… See above for flag football and cheerleading information.
  • Laurens YMCA: The next camp at the Laurens YMCA is a soccer camp for youth ages 7-15 that will take place from Tuesday, August 8 to Thursday, August 10th…The camp will be conducted by the Lakeland Toros a Greenwood based soccer team… The camp will be in the mornings from 9-11 am and with the experience of the Toros should be an excellent camp!… Click here for more information.

  • Basketball Camp… This camp will be July 31 – August 2 and is open to youth ages 9-13… The cost of this camp will be $40 and will be held at The Ridge from 9:00 am – noon each day.

2017 PC Sports Camps… PC has different sports camps throughout the summer… Below are the next couple of camps that I know of being held at PC.

  • Boys Evening Day Soccer Camp… August 4-6…Boys 5-15… This camp is designed to help young men improve their skills at any level through teaching fundamentals and game play… For more information on how to register and what to bring, click here.
