Local Notes:

Re-Alignment Shuffles Clinton & Laurens Next School Year… Yesterday the SCHSL announced the proposed re-alignment for high school athletics starting with the 2018-2019 school year.

  • Clinton… The Clinton Red Devils will remain in Class AAA Region 3 but will have some changes as the other members of the region… Chapman and Broome will be moving out and Emerald will be moving into the region… Mid-Carolina, Newberry and Woodruff will remain in the region thus Clinton will be in a 5-team region… Clinton with 824 students will be in about the middle of the pack attendance wise as the largest 3-A school is Camden (988 students) and the smallest is Landrum (641 students).
  • Laurens… The Laurens Raiders will also be seeing their region change even more than Clinton… Laurens will be moving from 5A-Region 2 to 5A-Region 1 and the opponents will be very familiar to the Raiders… Laurens will be in an 8-teqm region made up of Ealey, Greenwood, JL Mann, TL Hannah, Wade Hampton, Westside and Woodmont… Gone are Hillcrest, Mauldin, and Riverside who remain in 5A-Region II… Of the 48 school in the 5A classification, Wando with 4,365 students in the largest while Laurens with 1,607 students is the 46th smallest with York being the smallest with 1,573 students.

Pro Sports    For more information on any of the following games, click on their score.

  • Braves 5 – Dodgers 3… The Braves snapped their losing streak at 8 games last night by taking a 5-3 win over the Dodgers in Atlanta… The game was tied 3-3 going into the bottom of the 8th inning when Tyler Flowers came off the bench to pinch hit for the Braves pitcher and smacked a 2-run, two out homer to bring in what would prove to be the winning runs for the Braves… In the second inning the Braves leftfielder Danny Santana also had a 2-run homer … The final game of the 3-game series with the Dodgers will take place tonight at Sun Trust Park with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 pm.
  • Drive 1 – Tourist 0… There is also good news for Greenville Drive fans as they took a 1-0 win over the Ashville Tourist last night at Flour Field… As you might imagine it was pretty much a pitcher’ duel as the Tourist managed only 5 hits in the game to the Drive’s 6 but that one hit difference was a big one as in the 5th inning the Drive’s third baseman Bobby Dalbec had a solo homer (7) to provide the one run they needed… The win allowed the Drive to avoid a sweep by the Tourist of the 3-game series and the Drive will now start a 7-game road trip with the first stop being down on the coast to start a 4-game series with the Charleston RiverDogs tonight.
  • Panthers Training Camp … The Panthers once again are at Wofford College conducting their very popular preseason training camp… To go to the Panthers website where you can get all your questions as to dates, times, parking directions and what you can bring or not bring, click here….
