Wreck near Joanna Kills Sumter Woman

A Sumter woman was killed in a two vehicle wreck on Interstate 26 near Joanna around noon Tuesday.

South Carolina Highway Patrol Lance Corporal Gary Miller said the fatal wreck occurred as a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV from Sumter, South Carolina and a 1998 Kenworth truck from Florida were southbound on Interstate 26 near the 61 mile marker. Trooper Miller said the SUV struck the semi-truck rig in the rear. The truck driver was not seriously injured.

A 49-year-old Sumter man who was driving the Jeep was transported to GHS for treatment of injuries. A rear-seat passenger was air-lifted for medical treatment. Trooper Miller said the front right passenger of the Jeep was killed.
