Sports Report for Friday, 8-11-2017

 Local Notes:

Clinton O-Zone All-Stars Fall Just Short of Title… The Clinton O-Zone All-Star team played two games out in Oxford, AL yesterday so let’s catch up with them.

  • Clinton 4 – Tennessee 3… In the first game Clinton played at 10am yesterday morning, they took a 4-3 win over Tennessee to punch their ticket into the finals against unbeaten Alabama knowing they would have to beat them twice to claim the championship.
  • Alabama 7 – Clinton 3… In the second game of the day yesterday afternoon, Clinton found itself tied 3-3 with Alabama going into the 6th inning… Unfortunately Clinton could not hold them scoreless the rest of the way as Alabama went on to take a 7-3 win thus capturing the O-Zone World Series Championship… Coach Matt Stewart said he was proud of his team’s effort against the best in the nation… The team is to be congratulated for winning the state title and being one of the last two teams playing… A lot of other teams wish they could say that.

Clinton and Laurens Both Take Wins at Woodruff Jamboree.

  • Clinton 20 – Blue Ridge 7… The Clinton Red Devil offense looked strong last night as they rolled to a 20-7 win over the Blue Ridge Tigers in a half of football… Darien Bailey and Kris Holmes both d rushing TDs for the Red Devils and quarterback Konnor Richardson hit Dawson Green for a TD… The Red Devil defense also looked very respectable and Tquan Cromer had 2 interceptions in the half of football…. The Tigers only score came with about 13 seconds left and it was on a 1 yard run
  • Laurens 9 – Woodruff 7… The Laurens Raiders showed a good deal of improvement last night from their previous scrimmages as they took a 9-7 win over the host Woodruff Wolverines… Laurens ground game was the bread and butter of the offense last night as Troy Dendy must have had over 120 yards rushing… Laurens first two drives were stopped on interceptions and the defense kept Woodruff off the board in the first quarter… Laurens got on the board first in the second quarter on a 25 fiels goal by Luke Mann…. Woodruff responded going the length of the field to score and go up 7-3 with 4:37 left in the contest… The R aiders then marched down the field themselves Troy Dendy breaking off some big runs… Duane Marin carried the ball in for the Raiders only TD and they went up 9-7 as the PAT failed with 2:01 left… Woodruff then marched down the field and had a pass completion to the Laurens 1 was then fumbled into and then out of the end zone for a touchback with 1:04 left and the Raiders ran the clock out.
