PC Notes:

  • PC Opens Football Season Tonight… A quick reminder that the Blue Hose open their football season tonight on the road at Wake Forest … Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 and the game can be seen on the ACC Network Extra… Now for more information about tonight’s contest, click here. 

Local Notes:

CHS: I need to do a little catching up with the CHS volleyball teams that hosted BHP on Tuesday

  • BHP 3 – CHS 0… In varsity action, the traditionally strong Bears took a 3-0 win over the Red Devils… Set scores were 25-17, 25-16 and 25-16.., Sorry no further details.
  • JV: CHS 2 – BHP 1… Now the news is better where the JV team is concerned as the Red Devils took a 2-1 win over the Bears… BHP won the first set 25-22 but the Red Devils rebounded to win the next two sets by scores of 25-6 and 16-14.Laurens Academy:

Schedule Changes at Laurens Academy… The threat of bad weather has caused some schedule changes for the Crusaders today… The home middle school football game scheduled for today with WW King has been postponed until October 25 at 6:00 pm… The home opener varsity football game with Wardlaw Academy has been moved from tomorrow night up to today and the kickoff is scheduled for 5:00 pm this afternoon… Crusader fans are asked to come out and cheer the team on in their home opener.

  • Other High School Football Game Schedule Changes… The weather has also caused many other high schools across the state to change their football schedule for the week… The SCHSL has a posting of schedule changes for football and if you would like to check on these changes, click here and then scroll down…. They update the schedule throughout the day. 

 

Laurens County TD Club… Once again the Laurens County TD Club has a full slate of very interesting speakers lined up for its meetings every other week during the football season out at The Ridge starting at noon on Fridays… each week the local coaches will recap the games their teams have played since the last meeting and the talk about the game that night… There are several levels of sponsorship available and of course you can just come on the day of the meeting for a small fee… Now for a complete list of speakers and other information about the club, click here… If you still have questions, contact Marlene Owings at 864-833-2716 or by email at mowings@laurenscounty.org…. The next meeting will be Friday, September 9th and the featured speaker will be Clay Hendrix Head Football Coach at Furman University coaches as the speakers.Middle School Athletics:

Middle School Jamboree… Yesterday at KC Hanna Stadium the local middle schools participated in the annual jamboree where they played a half of football… In the opening half, Laurens Middle School shut out Gray Court-Owings 30-0… In the second half, the Sanders Yellow Jackets took a 38-8 win over the Panthers of Hickory tavern… All the schools kick of their season next week.

Braves… The Braves played a doubleheader in Philadelphia yesterday to make up a game rained out the day before.

  • Game 1: Braves 9 – Phillies 1… The Braves pounded out 15 hit to the Phillies 7 and took a 9-1 win breaking a seven-game losing streak… Ender Inciarte went 5-5 with 4RBIs to lead the Braves attack and Freddie Freeman had a two-run homer in the game.
  • Game2: Braves 5 – Phillies 2… The Braves made two in a row as they took a 5-2 win in the second game… Once again the Braves bats came alive pounding out 13 hits while the Braves pitchers limited the Phillies to just 6 hits…. Inciarte had another good game going 3-5 and Nick Markakis went 2-3 with 2 RBIs…. The Braves travel Chicago to start a series with the Cubs tonight.

Drive 6 – Braves 1… The Greenville Drive and the Rome Braves continued their series at Flour Field last night and the Drive used 10 hits (four of which were homers) to take a 6-1 win over the Braves. 

Panthers… The Panthers will host the Pittsburg Steelers tonight in Charlotte for a preseason football game starting at 7:30… I think the game can be seen on WYFF TV channel 4 out of Greenville

Broadcast Notes

  • Raider Football Broadcast… Our next Laurens varsity football broadcast will be this Friday night when Laurens travels to Chapman… We will start with our Friday Night Insiders program at 6:00 and then go live to KC Hanna Stadium about 6:35 with Doug Holiday calling the game and King Dixon adding his analysis of the game… Mike Hughes will report from the sideline…Our FM in-stadium transmitter will be set on 95.5, 104.1 or 87.9 whichever I find is best when I get there… And as usual you can hear it live on the internet at www.wlbg.com.
  • JV Broadcast… Join us here Thursday as we bring you JV Football action from KC Hanna Stadium as the Raiders host the Panthers in JV football action… We will go live between 7:00 & 7:30… The 9th grade team will be hosting Spartanburg starting at 5:30 prior to this game.

  • Red Devil Season Football Tickets on Sale …. Season football tickets for Red Devil football are now on sale at CHS. .  During the summer dates we will sell season tickets Monday through Thursday from 8:30-1:30 in the athletics office located in the main gym…  When school starts back on August 17th tickets will be sold 8:30-1:30 Monday through Friday…  Please enter through the main entrance of the gym, and Kathy Schumpert’s office is to the left and first office on the left (beside the men’s restroom in the gym lobby).  Kathy will also have membership forms for you to sign up with the CHS Booster Club as well…  Season Tickets will be $45 for one season ticket and one parking pass…  It will be $90 for two season tickets and one parking pass…  If you are a senior pass holder, you may purchase a parking pass for $20…  Parking spaces are limited, so they will be issued on a first come first serve basis… All senior pass holders must come to pick up a new senior pass this year!!!!  Senior passes will be printed each year starting with this up and coming school year…  All seniors may pick up their new senior pass in the athletics office and may come during the hours listed above…  All seniors must be prepared to show an ID to Kathy Schumpert…  In order to receive a senior pass, an individual must be at least 65 years old or older… If you need to make arrangements for an alternate time to pick up season tickets or senior passes, please call Kathy Schumpert at 864-938-1981 or Nickie Templeton at 864-938-1982.
  • Fall Baseball at the City of Laurens Parks & Recreation Department… Registration is now underway for fall baseball at the City of Laurens Parks and Recreation Department at their main office out at The Ridge… There will be “Coaches Pitch” for ages 6-8 and “Kids Pitch” for ages 9-1… Now registration for either is only $40 and registration closes Thursday, August 31… There will be a mandatory skills evaluation on Tuesday September 5…. For any questions about new bat rules or registration questions call The Ridge at 681-7275.
  • Fall Weeball / Tee Ball at the Laurens Family YMCA… Now there are also fall baseball opportunities for those ages 3-6 as the Laurens family YMCA has their Weeball & tee ball program… Again the ost is $40 and registration ends August 31… Practice will begin on September 5th at Collyar Park. Please register at the Laurens Family YMCA and call them if you have any questions at 984-2626.
  • Fall Soccer at the Clinton YMCA… Registration is now open at the Clinton Family YMCA for fall soccer… It is open to youth ages 3-12 and will be divided into three age appropriate groups.
