Sports Report for Tuesday, 9-26-2017

PC Notes:

  • PC 27 – Cumberland 20… The Blue Hose football team let a 17-7 lead at half slip away in the third quarter and found themselves tied with Cumberland going into the fourth quarter but rallied to score the winning points on a 49 yd. TD run by DeShawn Davis to take a 27-20 win over Cumberland at Bailey Memorial Stadium last Saturday night… This marks the first time that PC has won two games in a row in many a year… For more information on this game, click here… PC host Wofford this Saturday night at 7:00 pm. 

Local Notes:

CHS:

  • JV Football: Chesnee 33 – Clinton 20… I finally have the score but no real details on the CHS at Chesnee JV football game last Thursday… Chesnee won by a score of 33-20… The game was pretty much even in every quarter but the second where Chesnee outscored the Red Devils 13-0.

LDHS:

  • Golf… Lady Raiders Finish Third… The Lady Raider golf team traveled to Greenville last Thursday for a 3-way match with Wade Hampton and Mauldin… In the match the Raiders finished third with Hanna Finley having the low score for the Raiders with a 51… Bailey Carder shot 57, Anna Grace Rowland 59 and Maddison Wilson a 71… For a few more details on the match, click here.
  • Tennis: Hillcrest 7 – Laurens 0… Last Thursday the Lady Raider tennis team hosted the Lady Rams of Hillcrest… Unfortunately the news is not good as Hillcrest took a 7-0 win… For match details, click here.

Laurens Academy:

  • Varsity VB: LA 3 – Greenwood Christian 0 and MS VB: LA 2 – Greenwood Christian 0 sorry no other details.

 

Middle School Athletics:

  • VB: HT 3 – GCO 0… Set scores were 25-17, 25-16 and 25-21.
  • VB: LMS 3 – Northside 0… Set scores were 25-20, 25-22 and 25-23… LMS season record is now 1-1
  • VB: Brewer 2 – HT1… Last Thursday HT lost to Brewer in volley ball action 2-1… Hickory Tavern took the first set 25-22 but Brewer rebounded to take the second set 25-20 and the third set 15-13 to take the match.
  • VB: Mid-Carolina 2 – HT 0… Also last Thursday HT fell to Mid-Carolina by a score of 2-0… Set scores were 25-21 and 25-19

Braves. .. The Braves were on the road last night travelling up to New York to start a series with the Mets… Yesterday they played a doubleheader to makeup a game rained out back in April

  • Game 1: Braves 9 – Mets 2In one of the games the Braves bats pounded out 10 hits and 9 runs as ty took a 9-2 win over the Mets… Tyler Flowers had a 2-run homer for the Braves and Ozzie Albies had a solo shot.
  • Mets 3 – Braves 2…. In the other game last night the Mets took a 3-2 win… The Braves trailed 3-0 going into the top of the 9th inning when they rallied scoring two runs but the rally fell short

  • Middle School Football Broadcast…. Join us here Wednesday at 5:00 pm as we bring you all the action live from Wilder Stadium as the 8th Grade Wildcats of CMS host the Hickory Tavern Panthers in middle school football action…. And as usual you can hear it live on the internet at www.wlbg.com.
  • Raider Football Broadcast… Our next Laurens varsity football broadcast will be this Friday night when Laurens Hillcrest… We will start with our Friday Night Insiders program at 6:00 and then go live to KC Hanna about 6:35 with Doug Holiday calling the game and King Dixon adding his analysis of the game… Mike Hughes will report from the sideline…Our FM in-stadium transmitter will be set 95.7… And as usual you can hear it live on the internet at www.wlbg.com.

  • Laurens County TD Club… Once again the Laurens County TD Club has a full slate of very interesting speakers lined up for its meetings every other week during the football season out at The Ridge starting at noon on Fridays… Each week the local coaches will recap the games their teams have played since the last meeting and the talk about the game that night… There are several levels of sponsorship available and of course you can just come on the day of the meeting for a small fee… Now for a complete list of speakers and other information about the club, click here… If you still have questions, contact Marlene Owings at 864-833-2716 or by email at mowings@laurenscounty.org….   • Fall Soccer at the Clinton YMCA… Registration is now open at the Clinton Family YMCA for fall soccer… It is open to youth ages 3-12 and will be divided into three age appropriate groups.   • Laurens County Sports Hall of Fame Accepting Nominations for 2018 Class… The Laurens County Sports Hall of Fame is now accepting nominations through October 31st for their second class, the Class of 2018… Those selected will be inducted March 27, 2018 in a 6:30 pm ceremony at The Ridge… But first you the general public must nominate those you think are worthy and fall into the set criteria for inclusion in the hall… For more information about who is in the hall already, criteria those nominated have to meet and other information about the hall, click here… Nomination forms are available at www.laurenscountysportshalloffame.comFor any questions about the Laurens County Sports Hall of fame, contact Billy Dunlap at bdunlap@golaurens.com
