Sports Report for Friday, 9-29-2017

PC Notes:

  • PC hosts Wofford Tomorrow… The Presbyterian College football team will host seventh-ranked Wofford on tomorrow at 7 p.m. at Bailey Memorial Stadium in a clash of teams from the Upstate. It will be the 84th all-time meeting between the two on the gridiron with the series currently locked at 40-40-3… For more information about the teams and the series between them, click here.

LDHS:

  • Freshman Football: Laurens 20 – Hillcrest 15… Trailing 7-6 with less than three minutes remaining, the Raiders faced a fourth and eleven at their own 46 yard line… Quarterback Cole Mundy threw a five yard pass to Nick Humphries. Humphries lateraled the ball to a streaking Shemare Dendy, and he raced down the sideline for the go ahead score…On the ensuing defensive series, Keshard Davis picked off an errant pass and returned it 35 yards for a game-clenching touchdown… Hillcrest added a score with 12 seconds remaining to make the final margin… The Raiders scored first on a 46 yard pass from Dendy to Davis in the first quarter. The Rams scored in the second quarter and added the PAT for the 7-6 lead… The Raiders improved to 1-3 and travel to Wade Hampton next Thursday at 5:30
  • JV Football: Laurens 14 – Hillcrest 13… Sorry no other details.
  • Tennis: Wade Hampton 5 – Laurens 2… The Lady Raider tennis team traveled to Wade Hampton yesterday to take on the Lady Generals and came up a little short as the Generals took a 5-2 win… Kathleen Horner took a win in singles action and for other details on the match, click here.

Laurens Academy:

  • Volleyball… The Crusader volleyball teams traveled down to Newberry Academy yesterday and they both came back home with a win… The middle school team won 2-1 and the varsity won 3-0 to cap a week where both teams went 3-0.

Middle School Athletics:

  • FB: Northside 31 – Sanders 21… Sanders traveled down to Greenwood yesterday to take on the Northside Knights and led the contest 14-12 at the half but Northside outscored them 19-7 in the second half to take a 31-21 win over the Yellow Jackets… For more details on this game like who scored for the Yellow Jackets, click here.
  • FB: Laurens Middle 38 – Merriwether 0… The LMS Tigers hosted the Merriwether MS Mustangs… The Tigers scored 14 points in the first quarter, 16 in the second and 8 in the third in rout to the win… For more details including who scored for the Tigers, click her… The Tigers improve to 2-2 on the season.

  • Marlins 7 – Braves 1… The Braves started their final 4-game series of the season down in Miami with the Marlins with a 7-1 loss… Their season will end Sunday… Click on the score at the beginning for more information.

  • Raider Football Broadcast… Our next Laurens varsity football broadcast will be this Friday night when Laurens Hillcrest… We will start with our Friday Night Insiders program at 6:00 and then go live to KC Hanna about 6:35 with Doug Holiday calling the game and King Dixon adding his analysis of the game… Mike Hughes will report from the sideline…Our FM in-stadium transmitter will be set 95.7… And as usual you can hear it live on the internet at www.wlbg.com.

  • Laurens County TD Club… Once again the Laurens County TD Club has a full slate of very interesting speakers lined up for its meetings every other week during the football season out at The Ridge starting at noon on Fridays… Each week the local coaches will recap the games their teams have played since the last meeting and the talk about the game that night… There are several levels of sponsorship available and of course you can just come on the day of the meeting for a small fee… Now for a complete list of speakers and other information about the club, click here… If you still have questions, contact Marlene Owings at 864-833-2716 or by email at mowings@laurenscounty.org….   • Flag Football at the Laurens YMCA… Registration in now open thorough October 1st for flag football at the Laurens YMCA… Registration is open to youth ages 3-14 and the cost is $50 for YMCA members and $60 for non-members… Practices will begin at 5:45 on October 2nd and games and practices will be on Mondays and Thursdays… For more information call the Laurens YMCA at 984-2626.
  • Laurens County Sports Hall of Fame Accepting Nominations for 2018 Class… The Laurens County Sports Hall of Fame is now accepting nominations through October 31st for their second class, the Class of 2018… Those selected will be inducted March 27, 2018 in a 6:30 pm ceremony at The Ridge… But first you the general public must nominate those you think are worthy and fall into the set criteria for inclusion in the hall… For more information about who is in the hall already, criteria those nominated have to meet and other information about the hall, click here… Nomination forms are available at www.laurenscountysportshalloffame.comFor any questions about the Laurens County Sports Hall of fame, contact Billy Dunlap at bdunlap@golaurens.com
