Sports Report for Thursday, 10-5-2017

Local Notes:

CHS:

  • Tennis: Mid-Carolina 6 – Clinton 0… Back on Tuesday the Red Devils hosted Mid-Carolina in region action… News is not god for Red Devil fans as the rebels took a 6-0 win over the Red Devils… For match details, click here.
  • Volleyball: Clinton 3 – Mid-Carolina 0… Now the news is better where volleyball is concerned as the Red Devils defeated the Rebels 3-0 at home on Tuesday… Set scores were 25-20, 25-13 and 25-15.
  • JV VB: Clinton 2 – Mid-Carolina 0… In action prior to Tuesday night’s varsity match, Clinton also defeated Mid-Carolina by a score of 2-0 Set scores were 25-13 & 25-20.
  • Girls X-Country Finishes First… Also on Tuesday the cross county teams faced off against the Laurens Raiders and the Laurens Academy Crusaders… The Girls finished in first place with a score of 16… The Raiders finished second with a score of 48 and the Crusaders third with a score of 68 (like golf lowest score wins)… Paige Trent finished first in the meet and if you want to see how other Red Devils finished in the meet and their times click here.
  • Boys X-Country Finish First Also… In the same meet the Red Devil boys’ team also finished first with a score of 21… The Laurens Raiders finished second with a 43 and Ware Shoals finished third with a score of 78… The Top finisher for Clinton was Zac Bagwell who finished second.. LDHS:

  • Tennis: Mauldin 7 – Laurens 0… Back on Tuesday the Lady Raider tennis team hosted the Lady mavericks of Mauldin HS… The Raiders were just too nice a host as the mavericks took a 7-0 win over the Raiders… For details on this match click here.
  • Volleyball: Mauldin 3 – Laurens 0… The Raider volleyball teams also played host to Mauldin on Tuesday and the results were similar to that of the tennis team as Mauldin took a 3-0 win…To see set scores and comments from Coach Culbertson click here
  • JV VB: Mauldin 2 – Laurens 0… In JV action prior to the varsity match, the mavericks were again victorious this time by a score of 2-0… Again to see set scores and comments from the coach click here.
  • Golf: Greenwood 209 – Laurens 238… Another score to report from Tuesday concerns the Lady Raider golf team which hosted the Greenwood Eagles… Again the news is not what I like to rport as Greenwood took a 209-238 win… Hanna Finley shot a 53 to be the low score for the raiders… Other Laurens scores were Anna Gray Rowland 59, Madison Wilson 61, and Bailey Carder 65
  • Coach Liner Talks About the Raiders After the Hillcrest Game… Earlier this week the Laurens School District Athletic Director and acting Superintendent Mr. Ed Murray sat down and had a video interview with Coach Liner about his feelings on the Raider football team at this stage of the season… If you have not seen that interview I invite you to click here to go to YouTube where it is posted.

Broadcast Notes.

  • Raider Football Broadcast… Our next Laurens varsity football broadcast will be this Friday night when Laurens host Wade Hampton… We will start with our Friday Night Insiders program at 6:00 and then go live to KC Hanna about 6:35 with Doug Holiday calling the game and Mike Hughes adding his analysis of the game… Coach Rob Sheffield will report from the sideline…Our FM in-stadium transmitter will be set 95.7… And as usual you can hear it live on the internet at www.wlbg.com.

  • Laurens County TD Club… Once again the Laurens County TD Club has a full slate of very interesting speakers lined up for its meetings every other week during the football season out at The Ridge starting at noon on Fridays… Each week the local coaches will recap the games their teams have played since the last meeting and the talk about the game that night… There are several levels of sponsorship available and of course you can just come on the day of the meeting for a small fee… Now for a complete list of speakers and other information about the club, click here… If you still have questions, contact Marlene Owings at 864-833-2716 or by email at mowings@laurenscounty.org….   • Laurens County Sports Hall of Fame Accepting Nominations for 2018 Class… The Laurens County Sports Hall of Fame is now accepting nominations through October 31st for their second class, the Class of 2018… Those selected will be inducted March 27, 2018 in a 6:30 pm ceremony at The Ridge… But first you the general public must nominate those you think are worthy and fall into the set criteria for inclusion in the hall… For more information about who is in the hall already, criteria those nominated have to meet and other information about the hall, click here… Nomination forms are available at www.laurenscountysportshalloffame.comFor any questions about the Laurens County Sports Hall of fame, contact Billy Dunlap at bdunlap@golaurens.com
