Sports Report for Friday, 10-6-2017

PC Notes:

  • PC Faces St. Francis… The Blue Hose football team will host St. Francis tomorrow at 1 pm at Bailey Memorial Stadium and this will be the fifth straight home game and last non-conference game… This will mark the first time these two teams have meet on the gridiron and the Red Flashes game into the game tomorrow with a 3-1 record and are coming off a win over Liberty by a score of 13-7… Now for information about the game tomorrow, click here….   • 9th Grade Football: Laurens 44 – Wade Hampton 0… The Laurens Raider 9th grade football team traveled up to Wade Hampton last night and the ride back home probably seemed shorter than the ride up because the Raiders took a 44-0 win over the Generals… Laurens scored on its first 6 possessions of the game while the defense forced 3 fumbles, blocked a punt and had an interception… For more details on the game including how the Raiders scored and who had the blocked punt and interception, click here.
  • Tennis: Riverside 7 – Laurens 0… Yesterday the Lady Raider tennis team hosted the Lady Warriors of Riverside in region tennis… The Raiders were just too polite a host as Riverside took a 7-0 win… For details on this match, click here.

Laurens Academy:

  • VB: Wardlaw 3 – LA 1… The Laurens Academy volleyball team had their winning streak snapped yesterday out at the academy as Wardlaw took a 3-1 win… Wardlaw took the first set 29-27 but the Crusader rebounded and took the second set 25-22… Wardlaw then took the next two sets by scores of 25-20 and 26-24 to take the hard fought match win.
  • MS Football: Wardlaw 40 – LA 12… Sorry no details on this game… The Crusader record is now 3-2 on the season.


Middle School Athletics:

  • FB McCormick 32 – Sanders 12… On Wednesday the Sanders Yellow Jackets hosted McCormick MS yesterday and McCormick put 16 points on the board in the first quarter and then went on to a 32-12 win over Sanders… Sandesh scores were a 55 yard TD pass from Isaiah Patterson to Tye Roberson and a 75 yard TD run by Germire Darden…. Michael Shaw led the Yellow Jacket defense with 7 tackles
  • VB: CMS 3 – HT 1… Also back on Wednesday the Hickory Tavern volleyball team hosted the Wildcats on Clinton Middle School… When the final point was scored, the Wildcats had taken a 3-1 win over the Panthers… Clinton won the first set 25-21 but the Panthers rebounded and took the second set by a score of 25-22… The Wildcats then won the next two sets by scores of 25-14 and 25-16 to take the match win.
  • FB: LMS 36—Northside 0… Yesterday the LMS Tigers hosted the Northside MS Knights in middle school football action… Good news here as the Tigers took a 36-0 win over the Knights… Scoring for the Tigers went as follows: James Rawl had a 35 yd. TD pass to Carson Elledge and Zy’Tavius Todd added the 2-point conversion… Rawl also had a 20 yd. TD pass to Devon Redd… Todd also had a 35 yd punt return for a TD with Wallrick Burnside adding a 2-point conversion… Todd also had a 15 yd. TD run with Rawl hitting Redd fir the 2-point conversion… Finally Rawl threw a 35 yd. TD pass to Burnside… Redd also forced a fumble… The Tigers improve their record to 3-2 on the season.

Broadcast Notes.

  • Raider Football Broadcast… Our next Laurens varsity football broadcast will be this Friday night when Laurens host Wade Hampton… We will start with our Friday Night Insiders program at 6:00 and then go live to KC Hanna about 6:35 with Doug Holiday calling the game and Mike Hughes adding his analysis of the game… Coach Rob Sheffield will report from the sideline…Our FM in-stadium transmitter will be set 95.7… And as usual you can hear it live on the internet at

  • Laurens County TD Club… Once again the Laurens County TD Club has a full slate of very interesting speakers lined up for its meetings every other week during the football season out at The Ridge starting at noon on Fridays… Each week the local coaches will recap the games their teams have played since the last meeting and the talk about the game that night… There are several levels of sponsorship available and of course you can just come on the day of the meeting for a small fee… Now for a complete list of speakers and other information about the club, click here… If you still have questions, contact Marlene Owings at 864-833-2716 or by email at….
