Sports Report for Tuesday, 10-10-17

PC Notes:

  • PC 26 – Saint Francis 14… The PC football team evened its season record at 3-3 last Saturday afternoon as they used a pair of fourth quarter touchdowns to take a 26-14 win over the Saint Francis Red Flash at Bailey Memorial Stadium… The Blue Hose scored first in the game and never trailed and amassed 357 yards of total offense… If you would like more details on the game including comments from Coach Tommy Spangler, click here… The Blue Hose will host Big South opponent Charleston Southern at noon this Saturday.

  • Webb Named Panthers Coach of the Week…. Last Friday at the Laurens County TD Club meeting it was announced that CHS Head Football Coach Andrew Webb had been named the Carolina Panthers Coach of the Week… Webb was nominated because of impact he has made on the team, school and community not only on the field but more importantly off the field… He will be featured by the Panthers in the Game Time for this Thursdays game with the Eagles and recognized on December 17th during the Packers game… To see the official press announcement click on the following: Webb+Panther -Coach-Week-Press+Release  … You can also see the announcement made by Buddy Bridges at last Friday’s TD Club meeting by clicking here… Congratulations to Coach Webb!


  • Mauldin Wins Region II – 5A Girls Golf Tournament…  Yesterday out at Lakeside CC the Raiders hosted the Region II-5A Girls Golf Tournament which Mauldin won with a team score of 364… Riverside finished second and Wade Hampton third…. The Laurens Raiders did not receive a final team score as they were only able to field 3 of the required 4 golfers due to an injury to one of their players… Emily Dunlap of Mauldin was the match medalist with a 69… For more information on this tournament, click on the following: 2017+Region+2-5A+Girls+Golf+Results


  • Darling Named Homecoming Queen… Congratulations go out to Jami Reese darling for being named LDHS Homecoming Queen at last Friday night’s game against Wade Hampton… Picture courtesy of GoLaurens.

College Sports:

  • FBS Football Rankings… The latest AP FBS football rankings had no changes in spots 1 & 2 as Alabama and Clemson continue to hold down the top two spots… However with former #3 Oklahoma’s loss there was some shakeup in the top 10… Penn state moved to # 3, Georgia to #4 and Washington to #5… The balance of the top 10 are: TCU, Wisconsin, Washington State, Ohio state and Auburn… To see the entire top 25 in the AP Poll, click here.
  • FCS Football Poll… In the FCS Football Division, the Coaches Poll continues to have James Maddison in first and North Dakota State second… Wofford continues to hold down the #5 spot and The Citadel checks in at #22… There are a couple of other teams in surrounding states that made the top 25 and if you want to check out the entire poll, click here.

  • Volleyball: Mon. varsity host Anderson Christian @ 5pm, Tues. both teams host Richard Winn @ 5/6 pm. & Region Tournament begins Sat. Oct 14th.
  • MS Football travels to Timmerman @ 6pm on Thursday
  • Varsity Football travels to Richard Winn for 7:30 pm game. 

Broadcast Notes.

  • Raider Football Broadcast… Our next Laurens varsity football broadcast will be this Friday night when Laurens host Riverside on Senior Night… This will be the Raiders regular season home game… We will start with our Friday Night Insiders program at 6:00 and then go live to KC Hanna about 6:35 with Doug Holiday calling the game and Mike Hughes adding his analysis of the game… Coach Rob Sheffield will report from the sideline…Our FM in-stadium transmitter will be set 95.7… And as usual you can hear it live on the internet at

  • Laurens County TD Club… Once again the Laurens County TD Club has a full slate of very interesting speakers lined up for its meetings every other week during the football season out at The Ridge starting at noon on Fridays… Each week the local coaches will recap the games their teams have played since the last meeting and the talk about the game that night… There are several levels of sponsorship available and of course you can just come on the day of the meeting for a small fee… Now for a complete list of speakers and other information about the club, click here… If you still have questions, contact Marlene Owings at 864-833-2716 or by email at….   • Laurens County Sports Hall of Fame Accepting Nominations for 2018 Class… The Laurens County Sports Hall of Fame is now accepting nominations through October 31st for their second class, the Class of 2018… Those selected will be inducted March 27, 2018 in a 6:30 pm ceremony at The Ridge… But first you the general public must nominate those you think are worthy and fall into the set criteria for inclusion in the hall… For more information about who is in the hall already, criteria those nominated have to meet and other information about the hall, click here… Nomination forms are available at www.laurenscountysportshalloffame.comFor any questions about the Laurens County Sports Hall of fame, contact Billy Dunlap at
  • Laurens County Chamber of Commerce Oyster Roast… The Laurens County Chamber of Commerce 10th annual College Football Fan Challenge Oyster Roast which will be on Thursday, November 9th out at the chamber’s office… It features all you can eat and drink and food service starts at 6 pm but the gates open at 5 pm… There will be steamed oysters, low country boil, chicken gumbo, as well as silent and live auctions… Tickets are $40 each and are on sale now… Contact Marlene Owings at 864-833-2716 or to purchase tickets, or inquire about sponsorship opportunities!
